Question Looking for some help with my set-up:

Here is what I am currently working with. I was curious if anyone had suggestions on what lure/presentation in conjuction with the rod length and action you like to use/think works best. I am just curious about using what on what rod/reel give the lure/presentation the best action/performance. Thanks.

Looks like you have some good combos. I'd fish all the soft plastics on a MH action rod to take advantage of the backbone for a hook set and fish the treble hook baits all on a M action rod to help keep from tearing the hooks out of a fish's mouth, but otherwise you have them set up the same way I would.

You might think about getting a M or MH action spinning rod for shakey heads-you would probably get a better hookset than you will with that ML rod, but it is a great dropshot setup.

good advice rebbasser. the only thing i would mention is that i would use heavier line on the 7' medium-heavy rod, about 15lb -20lb. if you fish clear water, just get some flourocarbon.

I don't use ML for anything Bassing, but I agree with everything else. Except of course, I also use Heavy rods at times when pitching and flipping, and occasionally on c-rigs. Most of this is just personal preference. So you will figure out over time what rods you like for what technique of fishing. Also as was pointed out to me a long time ago, every rod manufacturer may not actually be the same on the rods. Such as Saint Croix MH is stiffer than other MH rods on the market IMO.

For dropshot, and shakey head, falcon makes an awesome model, 6'6'' mh, but it has a lot of backbone, and I think that would be your ideal ds rod.

Va, I use a Falcon Coastal topwater rod for DS. L action but really does the job. I didn't like DS on a spinning rod and this rod allows me to DS with a baitcaster.

Alright I am lost! Whats a DS? Falcon makes a great rod, I have never picked up a 100$ rod with near as much sensitivty as mine, and with any less senitvity I would have missed half of my fish. Pretty lightweight too.

I suspect from the proficiency displayed in this thread that the following probably has gone without saying.........a MH rod for soft plastics not only yeilds a better hookset, but also affords better sensitivity overall for subtle presentations used at times with soft plastics. I've recently added the flourocarbon line to the MH rod and aside from a massive memory line problem, appreciate that the sensitivity factor has multiplied greatly.

Mac, me too, I use a mh rod, for almost all my soft plastics,(except t-rigged senkos) and flouro, but I am going to try some superline, for better sensitivity.

I hate drop-shotting. Don't know why, just do. In gin clear water though, my go to bait is a chartreuse/white chatterbait.
