When you use it for the first time or more importantly catch the first fish on it .

reb,
we've got about 7 more weeks of bass fishing until it really slows down, plus they lower all the lakes in mid october, and most of us switch to crappie fishing or hunting..
In texas, how does your game plan change in the later part of oct. and into nov? Do you guys still go out as much and is the bite there all winter?

JB, the gameplan really doesn't change with the exception of where and how we fish for them, but the water really doesn't get cold until November, and even then it isn't real cold by y'alls standards. The coldest water I've seen down here is about 48 degrees. Last November-Thanksgiving week as a matter of fact-Flyrod and I fished Choke Canyon, which is about 75 miles south of SA, and were catching them on topwater. Just checked my fishing log-the air temp was 38 but the water temp was 65. December-January is when the water gets the coldest, so slooooow is the name of the game, but depending on the body of water the pre spawn starts as early as December. Plus, they don't draw the lakes down and they don't freeze so we can fish year round.

jb we don't get a frost till thanks giving -maybe- here the water temps normally stay above 50 till around christmas time.. the slow bite times are january and early febuary then it starts to crank up..
the summer can be the slow time here..

they do draw the lakes down here only thing that i may change is to a jerkbait added to the list it will start creeping in to use about november and stop in april..ya know when top water sucks..
