Dumb question
This is probably dumb and you may have no idea what im talking about, but when i watch bass shows on tv, sometimes when they catch fish the bait is like 2 feet up on the line and the fish is on the hook at the end of the line. I was watching one today and i believe they were using a jerk bait (no idea what that even is) and thats what was happening to them when they caught a fish, what is up with that?
thanks Mitch |

The bait slides from the hook and travels up on the line, extremely common occurence with soft plastics.

Not unusual at all. Not sure as to why, but it is pretty common.

Really simple. Fish sucks up bait and person sets the hook. Bait is accelerated out of the fishes mouth but the hook stops when catching in mouth of fish. Fish shakes head violently with mouth open. Plastic bait slides up the hook and line. Camera men photograph this from multiple angles and the best shot make the show. RM then slaps on some sun screen and attempts to sell you some cheesy lures for the low, low price of $49.95 (plus S&H).

cool deal, thanks alot, thought that might be what was happengin just wasnt sure. I haven't learned a thing from any of those shows, all they do is show them catching fish, not much on how to catch fish, i fish rivers so none of it really pertains to me.

I am very new to fishing (less than a year) and I can honestly say that everytime I come to this site, I learn something. Then I try to apply it and after failing miserably the first several times, I get the hang of it and start to gain confidence. BTW, there is really no such thing as a dumb question. Most people on here are extremely helpful and don;t look down on us newbies. |
