Default Interesting afternoon

My daughter's boyfriend invited me to go fishing with him in a pond near where he lives. I bring my 12 foot jon boat & enough tackle to share. I figured out quickly he has never done much fishing. It was fun but I entered a lot of information in the data bank for the future.

Like what?

When he's winding up to cast, DUCK!!!
Always have a pair of needlenose pliers on hand for emergency hook removal.
Explain how to balance the load in the boat to remain upright.
Rods and reels don't float.
Rods and reels are expensive.

Reeling the fish up to where they were about to swallow the tip of the rod.
He did not know what a baitcaster was until I showed it to him. Fortunately I packed a spincast outfit.
He caught a bluegill on a beetlespin and was unsure how to get it off the hook without getting finned. Second one he caught, watching him unhook it was AFV worthy had I videoed it.
He is a good kid. Just not fishing experienced.

Hey Fred, did you show him where they could find his body, if you ever caught him harming your daughter.

I think maybe the kid was making a gesture... you know get to know the old man (father) Who knows maybe you could make a fisherman of him or at the very least have an excuse to make him disappear...

"I swear he just slipped out of the boat and I never saw him come back up!"

You gotta give him credit for trying...
I remember I invited my wife's dad to play golf for a fundraiser for my sister's highschool last year...Now he's retired, plays 4 times a week, belongs to a private club ,yadda,yadda....I use to play for my highschool team and work many years at a local country club...Im not that good by any means, but I can keep up and stay consistant.I thought I could impress him that day...Turns out to be one of the worst golf games I ever played....I had a few good drives, but everything else was horrible..I think I hit three houses that day...I havent played since, hahaha.

I think he was trying. He tries to make my daughter happy so far. I think he knows I am protective of my baby girl.

hahahaha, and him knowing that you love to fish, maybe he was trying to score some browny points huh? like it has been said, maybe you can teach him how to fish and he'll really love the sport. then if they breakup, he'll still want to fish. at least you are able to get yourself a nice little honey hole right?

He said he is going to look for other options. He did get his line broke by a bass we got to see which was a little over 3 pounds. I found the drag was too tight.

You sure he was not doing it on purpose to make you look good? Could be a set up for something else you know.
