Plastics in Ponds?

I have been fishing with almost all hardbaits and havent been getting good results so i have gone to soft plastics. What plastics do you use in very shallow ponds that are clear and have nothing but pike and bass along with a few baitfish in it? Also how do you rig them? Thanks!

I would use a big Zoom Mag II worm in natural colors like green and brown on a 3/0 or 4/0 Gamakatsu EWG hook in the spring/summer, in the fall/winter I would throw 4" Zoom C-Tail worm in the same colors on a 2/0 EWG Gamakatsu hook. Both worms work extremely well for me when I fish small bodies of water, you might want to also try the 6" Powerbait Bungee worm. Also use a very small bullet weight on a texas rig for a slower drop. My favorite way to fish a plastic worm with a ribbon tail is to throw it to a good looking spot, let sink for a second or 2, and then start a very slow and steady retrieve. If that doesn't work dead stick it and make very small hops back to the boat or bank. One thing I have learned about small clear lakes and ponds is that loud baits=spooked fish, so you are making a good choice to choose soft plastics.

I like a stick bait like a Tiki Stick or a soft jerkbait like a Zoom super fluke in that situation. Rigging them:



Except I keep the point of the hook buried in the plastic rather than "Texposed" as the picture shows. You can rig every type of soft plastic this way.

I rig my worms this way too. But instead of going through the body with the hook point, I barely stick the point of the hook in the side of ther worm, I don't cover the bard. I find I get better hook sets this way. Some times they will hook them selves.
