Hey all I'm from pittsburgh and recently started fishin again and I want to get more serious about it. I'm 19 years old and haven't been out in a few years since me and the dad would go. However, I've been fishing alot this summer and want to get more serious. I got a few questions... Me and my buddy go to a decent sized lake thats very deep and we fish from the side. I always bring 2 rods and use the short rod to throw out a worm on a bobber and use the longer rod to throw lures hoping it'll double my chances. Is that a good idea? The short rod I use is an uglystik (??) almost 5 feet long or so and I have another thats about 6 feet. I use the longer one for spinner baits and such cuz I can cast alot further. Does anyone have any suggestions for fishing from the side of a deep lake? I'm lookin to fix up my dads old boat but until then we can't get out in the deep water.

-On a side note I'm planning to catch some of the bassmasters on TV here soon since there only about 20 minutes away

This time of year the fish are deeper, so you want to use something to get down to them. A Carolina rig or C-rig is a super tactic. Here is what one looks like:

If you are fishing cover a Texas rig or T-rig works well:

The Texas rig is a vertical presentation-cast it out, let it sink, reel down to it, raise the rid tip which raises it off the bottom and let it fall. A hit usually comes on the fall.

A C-rig is a horizontal presentation and covers a lot of water. Cast it out, and move it by keeping the rod tip level and pulling it towards you. You want the sinker toi keep contact with the bottom kicking up a mud trail. If it feels "heavy", or if a fish tries to tear the rod out of your hand, which haoppens, set the hook by sweeping the rod away from the fish.

Anything! So far this summer i've got some bluegill, catfish, crappie, trout and bass... mostly on mealworms or spinners. nothing too big though
