Brush Piles

In my upcoming tourney I plan to fish some brush piles most of them are in 12 to 20 feet of water. I have had some success with the DD22 which I plan to use and I was thinking about a c-rig with either a lizard or a Mag II t rigged. Do yall have any more suggestions for catching some toads off of these piles? As always thanks in advance.

i fished some brush piles with my cousin a couple of nights ago, but we used some black, 1/32 and 1/16 ounce jigs and some brown ones too and caught over a dozen bass each over 2 hours. we never tried any plastics cause we were doing fine with the jigs.

Being a night tourney I would go with some topwater noisemakers, something giving off a vibration. Use dark baits on the topwaters, as the fish will be looking up at it and the sky is the background. Being a dark bait they'll be able to "see" the outline of the bait better. I'm talking, Jitterbugs, buzzbaits, Zara Spooks..things of that nature. If that's not working, go in the cover after them, thowing weedless plastics that move a lot of water, creature baits etc.

i second creekgeek. id throw some jigs in there... ive had a ton of success on jigs with zunt zippy trailers, but of course, you gotta trim your jigs up

i just use some little jigs and they work fine for me. I caught i nice 3 1/2 pounder using those

if you rig a texas rig up use a magnum lizard or real big worm..

GW, get a couple spinnerbaits with a single Colorado blade-they make a great night bait.

1-topwater, probably buzzbait or jitterbug.
2-Black jig with a dark red curly tail grub trailer
3-10" Black Powerworm texas rigged

Just to make sure I get what you are saying...I usually use black spinners off of points and beside docks we also use topwaters right after dark. Are you guys suggesting I use these to fish the brush we have found...or just use them in general? Thanks for all the input.

if you can use the topwater in the brush pile...go for it. I'd use jigs and black worms more in brush though.

In general but also along side the brush. I don't suggest throwing the topwaters into the brush unless it's a plastic rigged weedless. Generally they'll venture out of the brush under the cover of darkness in search of food rather than waiting in ambush for it to come swimming by.

Try a top prop in and around the cover its weedless.

I've always run a rattletrap over the brush piles, and then close in and pick it apart with worms, jigs, spinnerbaits.
