Felt bad for #3 today...well kinda......
I hit the waters today and steam is comming off the top, air temp about 65 but the water temp feels like bathwater, no wind, and bluebird skies/high pressure..
I start out throwing the Spook over deep water ledges, no takers, then see some activity on the flats, throw over that way and get a couple broad shouldered bass, maybe 14-15 inchers but chubby. So on the third out of 5 bass today , I go back to a dropoff and one blows up and misses it, I let it set and twitch again and the bass had it, and for the first time all month, my drag actually gets some action! I had noticed all the fish that hit today really hit hard, but once they knew they were hooked and being dragged in, they didn't hardly fight at all. Not this one, #3 was going ape**** on me..I get her to the boat and see why, I had one hook in the top lip, the back treb was stuck on the top fin, and the middle hook was deep in the bass's membrane that surrounds the EYE...Yikes! I had forgot my needlenose pliers and had to work at getting that hook out of the eye,, bad day for mr bass, but a nice 5 keepers for ol JB~ |
