When will the lakes melt!!!
Here in Michigan it looked like the we were going to have an early spring. Then it started to snow and plunged into the the 22 degree range. When will I be able to fish. Lure making does help tide me over but in the end of a long winter i need to wet my line.

April 30th for bass/pike/walleye..... However if you want to go after pearch or gills you can go out early. If you do feel like breaking the law, please don't post about it.
Thanks. |

i wasnt posting about breaking the law... im not a meat fisherman... that was pretty damn speculative, I'm sure everyone up north cant wait for the lakes to melt. I try to inform people on taking a selective harvest to keep our fish in the waters. that was extremely speculative and a real prick thing to say to someone complaining about the weather.
Thanks Last edited by M_A_C_K; 03-28-11 at 03:08 PM. |

Wow, that was a total miss on your part. Re-read your post. What does meat fishing have to do with anything?? Do you know Michigan fishing laws??? I was purely stating that our season opens on April 30th for C&R for bass; pike and walleye can be kept. Other then that the only thing you can fish for in MI is panfish (form now until April 30th). So, how is that being a prick? So to just "wet a line" with a crankbait, jerkbait, tube, jig or pretty much any other bait is pretty much illegal in MI. You might want to read this (page 7): http://www.michigan.gov/documents/dn...s_347106_7.pdf |

yeah... you cant keep anything but certain panfish untill early spring. but there is an early catch and release season. I like to fish for crappies and bluegills with micro-jigs.

yeah Keith there are a lot of good inland lakes here in Michigan for a lot of species. But I like to find lakes that aren't fished too much. I'm planning on doing some hiking into our national forests for some hidden gems this summer. Kind of want to get a small fishing club going on which would be fun.

It is one of the dumbest laws on the books I think. The only reason the DNR gives is that people might be targeting walleye and they need to protect them. I very, very seldom see people targeting walleye on any of the inland lakes I used to fish and there are only a few that I know that even have them in there. There are a few groups trying to change this law.

Hey MACK sorry if you took it/itcame across the wrong way. I could be up in Ludington next week (out of the state this week). How does a beer on Tuesday afternoon sound? My treat, Sportsman's sound around noon?

I here ya mack, same thing happened here but colder. It's suppose to warm back up Friday, as in constantly above freezing, in both the highs are low. I'd say we'll be able to fish (I wont be able to bass fish though because of seasons), sometime mid April. I'm no expert though, I've barely been here half a year, lol!

No, don't drive a truck. I sell a product to people who manufacture and cover some of the mid west states and west, mid and northern MI.
