Tiny Grubs

A series of storms have passed through my area, and the bass are not biting. I know they are there because I see them pop up to the surface to snatch insects, but they are not biting any lures. I see people around me throwing everything in their tackle box, including worms, senkos, spinners, cranks, etc., but no one seems to be catching anything.

This gave me the idea to try some tiny 1 inch grubs in my box, thrown on a tiny jighead. Has anyone tried this presentation on finicky bass before? Would it be worth it? Can anyone give me any tips on how to fish these tiny grubs? I know the best way is to go out and try it, but I was hoping for some pointers before I hit the water. Thanks.

prespawn i like to throw a 1 inch tube worm with a minnow jighead, just throw it and retrieve it really slow. dont know how it would work now but u never hurts to try

Toss a 2" crappie tube in a translucent grey color (probably any natural color will work) with an inserted 1/16oz jighead around surface feeding smallies, and... hold on!

I remember a fishing trip my family took to Cass Lake MN many years ago when I was around 16 years old. After two days of trying all the normal lures we woould use to catch pike and walleye, we hadn't had any luck. Then one day while the others were eatting lunch, I grabbed my panfish rod and a small yellow 1/8 0z Mr. Twister yellow twist beetle spin. I started casting the weedbeds near the pier thinking I might pick up a few perch and rock bass, which I did. But, I also started catching pike and small mouth, big time. I ran inside to tell the others, who found it interresting but thought it was just a fluke. By the end of the day, we were all at the baitshop buying every package of those small yellow beetle spins they had. The rest of the week we just killed everything on those tiny beetle spins. They don't look very impressive, but they can be awsome! Just cast them out around any cover you can find and reel it back in slowly. Thats all you really need to do. Good luck.

Fishing with a friend in Michigan some years ago fishing two inch grubs for bream, I noticed he was fishing the grub sideways on the hook......a wacky rig grub. As the day progressed he caught more and bigger fish. It may work on one inchers also. We were using 1/16 unpainted lead jigheads.........by sanding down the sides of the heads, you can go even lighter.

In the summer i swim alot of 3" kalin grubs (smoke/pepper) on 1/8 oz jig heads around standing timber to pick up a few extra bites. i Pick up alot of crappies too BONUS!

I've caught a ton of bass on 3" grubs either tx rigged or on jighead. T-rigging them works great with a 1/16oz weight, in and around grass, the only problem is finding a suitable hook.

Those 1" grubs will work great for bluegill/crappie. They are my #1 go-to bait when panfishing. For bass? I've caught a few 10 - 12" bass on them (fun on UL gear) but usually it's small 'gills.

Now, when it comes to those fat 2" - 3" grubs, those are bass KILLERS. For sheer production I doubt there's much any better. Rig on a 1/8OZ jig head and reel slowly across the bottom. I use some brown ones that are great.

i completely agree... 3" curly tailed grubs in watermelon seed are a great choice for summer! Probably my most productive bait actually. I usually fish in the rivers here and you can even cast them upstream and let the current do the work for you!
