Default Its been miserable hot for days here in ks, need advise on how to catch'm in the heat

hi all, its been hot and i mean hot here lately, temps have soared in the 3 digits for days with humidity to match, with that said what are you guys doing in the hot weather? i fish mornings and evenings but its been slow, the lake i fish has several docks for cover and alot of submerged weeds but the bites are coming slow. i do alot of wacky worming, c-rigging, brush hogs, buzz baits & top water frogs but all dont seem to be working like they did 1-3 months ago.

drop shot has been working, also shakey head. some other things that have been working is a 10inch culprit ribbontail worm and a chatterbait. of course if i was going in the morning or evening id be using a popper

I agree with the chatterbait. Caught 3 keepers saturday morning about 10min after daylight. During the day I switch to a KVD 1.5 and parallel deep banks with laydowns and throw a Zoom trick worm and Mag finese up under docks. Skipping all the way back up under stationary wooden docks seems to be the best. Good Luck!!!

Where are from? tavery5 and myself are in Wichita. We fished early mornings both days of this last weekend and didn't do worth a darn. We caught a couple, but normally would do a lot better than that. The heat needs to drop some or the fish at least need to get used to it and settle back into a feeding mode. Right now i just think that most of them are very lethargic.

Check out the July/August issue of Bass Master Magazine and read the article on page 58 about Lee Sisson's Shallow Water Secret. I think you may find it interresting and it may be very usefull for you. He talks about fishing durring this hot summer weather, and bucking the trend and heading very shallow.

Last year at this time it was not nearly as hot as it has been this year. Last year i was slaying them at my local lake when they would school up and chase shad. This year I have not seen any or just very little feeding activity like that.

when it gets hot like it is now, the bass will go DEEP into either cover or water. try a DEEP diving crankbait. 10-20 ft. drop shot, shaky head, wacky rigged worm. or jsut dead stick a 10-12 inch worm with out a weight. let it fall naturelly.

Ah sit down an drink a nice hot cup of coffee, clear your head then go atem look for thick cover they can get under, shade etc,I fish shallow most of the year.
A shallow fish is an active fish. Can be man made as well as natural, boat docks, barges, bridge abutments, wing dams, mooring cells, retaining walls and of course mother natures greenery along with felled trees ,stumps.
Its not every ones bag though so what ever you like to do do just do it better, when the heat gets turned on.Some of the man made is in deep water I just fish shallow crankbaits, flukes etc. around them.

Here's an article about Denny Brauer fishing shallow in the summertime.

The fishing's this summer's been brutal here too. Bites are few and far between... and never very impressive, lol. We've been caching a few here and there fishing a big worm (8" plus) r-e-a-l-y slowly along the bottom. Fish don't want chase, and a big lazy worm put right in front of there faces will tempt a few.

Hope this helps.

I've had luck firing jigs into the depths and slowly dragging em back. Go big on the jig/trailer combo. I think the fish are slower moving and looking for a big meal, rather than waste time on the smaller ones. Also, deep it helps you feel the bottom better.

Anthony's (BigBassin) jigs have been incredible.

Free plug for a good guy & seller.
