Monongahela & Yough Rivers

I live right by the Mon and Yough River. The Bassmasters was recently here and I saw how they struggled. The Mon shoreline has thick seaweed that wont work for a crankbait but with our small trolling motor it makes it tough to use a jig. Any ideas of what you heard worked on either of these rivers the best. I've heard those lizards work good. But I would like advice on brand and also maybe what colors work the best. I saw them fishing the piers and barges on the mon alot so ive been trying them. The yough were we put in is shallow around 2-3 feet and rocky bottom most of the river. Any Ideas?

Look for Milfoil weed.That is the weed type in your area that will produce the majority of fish. Jigs work well if your patient enough to fish the thick weeds, fishing inside and outside of the weedbed can be productive worming a light weight texas rigged system.depending the depth of water over the milfoil, rattle traps, senkos, baby 1- crankbaits or spinnerbaits can be fished. You have got to remember, they all prefished for three days before and that can lead to alot of hooked fish that didn't bite during the tournament.Fishing seemed bad at the classic, but take in consideration of number of the people fishing, and high boat traffic from the big event, before you think its not worth fishing or not. i like river fishing any body who can do it well. is very good in my book. of course the classic is a tad differant though . i knew this was going to be a tough fishery though...
almost 90% of the classic's are won out of the river section's of the respected lakes -look it up...

Well, I am by no means a pro, but I have caught lord knows how many smallies, eyes, sauger, largemouth, and so forth. Not bragging, but I have done VERY good tackling the river. I am fortunate enough to live in between Locks 2 & 3 on the Allegheny which is quite possibly the best fishing on the river. Not many guys ventured up this far in fear of getting "Locked Out", but if they would have, things could have done a complete 360 as far as weights go.

I have the same issues as you with the spots I fish, shallow water and hard rock bottoms for the most part. I personally don't do good on rubber lures, so I don't throw them that often. I have most of my success on spinner baits, jerk baits, cranks, minnow baits and spinners. To be more specific, jerk baits and minnows in either blue/chrome or black/chrome. Crank baits in some sort of crayfish color, but most effective for me is anything with orange in it. As for spinner baits, pretty much any blade configuration with a blue/chartreuse colored skirt, or a white skirt.

As I said, I am by no means a pro. I am 25 and I have fished this river since I was 5 and I have put in my work and caught my share of fish, and plenty of big ones to boot. So I do have a "little" bit of knowledge lol, and hopefully it can help you out.
