Default Whats the longest you have ever spent picking out a backlash?

Me? 45 minutes. Brand new PP line. Fishing a cypress creek, lure got hung on a tree right when my cast started going forward. Eventually got it out.

A new spool of line, 1 hour from the ramp, then 1 hour round trip from more line, while in the shady part of a creek on a blistering day will make you hassle with it I guess.

yep, you are right wtl. especially if you haven't got anymore line to respool. been there, done that too. so i would not be accurate on my time stated above. can't remember how long it was. not saying i don't backlash now, just that i don't do it like i used to anymore. i backlash about every 4th cast, lol.

I guess i'm anal. I don't go on the water without a spool of every line i'm using that day.

Well I may have exaggerated a bit. I'm usually in the back of the boat and only bring 3 rods at a time but have 5 reels. 2 of the reels are duplicates of reels attached to my rods and are pre spooled with matching line. beats the hell out of restringing. But I really ALWAYS have a full spool of 12lb fluoro at ALL times in my bag.

For me it was a little over an hour and a half. It was one of the first ones I had gotten and I viewed it like a puzzle that I wanted to solve. I ended up switching to a different rod for that day and brought the reel home to figure out.

probably close to an hour. it was when i was teaching my wife to throw a baitcaster and she got a doozie. i would have just cut it out after about 10 minutes if it was my backlash but she already felt really bad and i didn't want her to feel worse by cutting out the line. now many years later she can fish right along with me all day with a baitcaster and a backlash is really rare, and now she can pick them out herself when they do happen haha.

Im a pretty patient person, unless it is picking at a backlash, then I just get too frustrated after about ten minutes and cut it our, not to mention if you have one that bad you are gunna probably make weak spots in your line unless its braid. At least thats what I have experienced.

i usually try not too spend too long messing with em...if i cant get it out after 5 minutes, i will usually just take a reel off one of my other rods and use it.

I have spent an hour trying to pick one out of Powerpro. Boy, is that frustrating and does a number on the neck.

I rarely fish my baitcaster so when I do I am paying pretty close attention. I typically use it in open water with very little around me so there is not much for me to hit short of my target. I may try it more this year but I am pretty content using my open face reels.

Nowdays I donīt backlash oftenly, actually itīs a very rare event; but when I do the result can only be approached by cutting away all the line. Line coming out from every single opening the reel has is not a pretty sight.

The better you get as controlling the spool the more phenomenal your backlashes will become, ya know, you gain confidence with the years, reduce the braking to the point where your thumb is the only thing that can do the breaking, reduce the tension for mor distance and so , you look at what you can achive with practically no braking and you think: "Man, Iīm really good at this" and then one day ------>

I spent about 30 minutes getting one out Tuesday. I went to cast and my beaver got caught on a branch behind me and wzzzzzzz. Big time backlash. Since the line was brand new, I just sat there and picked it out till it was good again.

yeah..

i learned that today.. haha

with a 12 oz weight , i trying to flip it out there.. and i took my hand off the reel.. haha

with like 50 lb test mono, it was like trying to get a rope backlash out.. the guy was like.. dang son, you really got a good one,, then we had to reel them up and wait like 10 minutes of riding time, then he finally got it.. lol

my most is proablly 45 minutes at one time.. then i quit and spent another 30 minutes at it.. then i gave it to my dad and he got it haha
