Default New in fishing

Hi,

I'm new in this matter of fishing, though I like it very much. I've only gone fising a couple of times at a water reservoir near my home. Although, I enjoy my time in the outdoors, I haven't catch anything. I know there are some bass around becasue I've seen other people catching them.

Could you please advise me and give me some instructions on this? I have a 7 feet spinning rod spooled with 8 pound test fluorocarbon line. I usually use rapala lures 1/16 oz and a 1/8 egg sinker.

I just learned a couple of knots like the palomar and some others, but I don't know much about lures, weights, plastics, spoons and so on. Where should the weight go? At the bottom? What about the lure or hook? How fast should I retrieve the line? What position should I have my pole?

I don't have a boat so I fish on shore. Any piece of advise would really help. In advance, thank you very much for your help.

if you just want to catch some fish, get some real worms under a bobber. id also move up a little on line since you may not know how to fight a bass. look for one of these at walmart or pretty much any store that has fishing tackle. tie the line at the bend in the wire and wind in so the blades turn horizontally. this may catch some bass.

Thank you texasbasser. I have a couple of the ones you show in the pictures. I just haven't tried them.

Should I use any weight and where should I tie them. It's the tackle I'm using appropiate?

Know weight, your equipment is fine for this, once you start getting better and more serious about bass fishing you can get some of all that fancy stuff but for now your stuff will work fine, now go catch some bass!!

no wieght is needed. the head of the spinnerbait is weighted. just cast out and wind in. try aiming at trees, stumps, etc. and yes, your tackle is fine. With 8 pound line you may need to go higher like 10-14, untill you learn how to really bring a bass in. if the fish pulls dont wind. wait till he stops, then wind him in! also, set the hook once you feel a bite and keep constant pressure on him. if you release some pressure, the hook may find its way out.

Hey guys, ironman and texasbasser thank you very much. By just reading at your comments I've already learned a whole lot.

How about retrieve? I cast and how fast should I retrieve the line? No weight at all or only when using spinnerbaits. I tried to use a lure without weight and it didn't go very far. In fact, it just barely dropped ahead of me. How come?

Thank you very much for your comments.

Probobly because it was light or if you were using a baitcaster it could be a million things I would stick to a mediam retrieve and just reel it straight or just hop it once or twice every few seconds there are other ways but those seem to be the simplest, good luck.

ok,first,go get some 10lb or 12lb monofilament line in clear, then just cast out the spinnerbait and i like to let it sink for 3 seconds, then start a retrieve thats fast enough that you can see the spinnerbait.if your watching the spinnerbait and it jerks off to the side or disapears, then set the hook with a simple pull set.also,if the spinnerbait feels a little heavy, set the hook. another thing, plastic worms are pretty easy to fish. i think the most easy is the zoom trick worm in watermelonseed or pumpkinseed. get a couple packs of 2/0 or 3/0 offset hooks, the tie them onto your line and put the worm on the hook texas rig style, like this

well, if you are using perch topwater lures, then they will go NOWHERE. get some crankbaits or just any lure really about 2 or 3 inches long and you should be able to cast far enough. and no lures need any wieght added except plastics.

You guys are amazing. Thank you very much for your prompt answers. Really, I appreciate your comments. Texasbasser you said the only time I need weight is with plastics. How large should the plastics be? I have a couple of
3" and others 4". What do you guys think?

I got some red/black worms mainly because that's what a guy was using and it seems like it was working. If I decide to use plastic worms, what kind of weight and where?

Thank you guys.

Baja,
Welcome to Kevins! Hope ya stick around.

For fish catching ability, I am gonna have to say a Wacky rig Senko or Texas Rigged Senko. 4inch sizes will get youmore bites, but moslty from dinks, 5 inches is a favorite of most. I like Solid Black, and Watermelon Black Flake. Size 6 Gamakatsu Circle hook, through the center is wacky rig. Cast it out let it fall, and let it sit, feel for wait after 30 seconds and repeat. Cant go wrong, circle hooks also lessen the chance of a deep hook and bass death, and are easily removed if deep.

Good Luck,
Nick

get some 6'' or 7'' straight tail worms and put them on an offset hook,no weight at all,and just cast it out towards some kind of cover and let it fall on semi-slack line. then, just slowly pull up about 6'' with your rod tip, drop your rod tip about 6'' ,and rest the worm for about 5-10 seconds, then repeat until it is back to the bank.

i dont know about circle hook, but when you cast out, let it sit for 30 sec then jerk it about a foot and repeat. you need to use bullet weights, found in walmart or anywhere.

another easy technique to fish is a weighted texas rig,put like a 1/4 ounce weight or maybe a 1/8 ounce bullet weight on before the hook, and cast towards cover, let it sink, and just slowly reel it in. the bite on a plastic worm is often subtle, because the worm usaully is not moving at all,and the bass will suck the lure into it's mouth, leaving a dead weight or you will feel a "tap, tap, tap",this is when you set the hook hard,to penetrate the worm and the bass's mouth. hope i'm helping!

you may also want to get a couple of these- they are called rattle-traps, or Rat-L-Trap. again, just wind in pretty quick with it.

DO NOT use Weight on the WACKY RIG!

And Wieghtless Texas Rig a senko for intended action.

Use weight with other types of worms and creature. I liek to use the lightest weights possible, starting wiht 1/8 oz. When Pitching and Flippin, normally 1/4 oz to start.

no just put in on the line and slide it down. then tie your hook. then just put the worm on the hook and the weight will then fall into place.
