Making Baits
I know a lot of you guys make your own lures either jigger rigging around with already made ones or making your own. I wanna make inline spinners and crankbaits or hard topwater baits. Can someone give me some pointers. where you buy your parts, how you do it, painting, etc.

I mostly make spinnerbaits, but here is where I get my components:
http://www.staminainc.com/main.html And for tackle making: http://www.tackleunderground.com/ That is one area I don't know a much about.

Tonight, I just decided to mess around with some soft plastics. I made a "brush hog", a 4 inch worm with a chartreuse tail, and a 3 inch grub with a chartreuse head and a purple tail
Mixed some grubs with berkley power worms. Turned out pretty nice, I think |

no, I haven't tried them. I don't fish lizards and the like very often, they just aren't very common here, but I'm finding that my personal bass really like "creatures" so i'm gonna offer them up some lizards soon.

Have to agree LR. A fellow angler on another site mentioned that he take the claws ofF craw baits because bass avoid claws and doesn't like using Sweet Beavers as trailers. NONSENSE! Bass have a pea size brain that functions as a conduit of it's senses to it's muscles and fins. It wouldn't know claws from the sharp spines on a sunfish or perch, eaten tail-first.
If it's alive and easy prey, it's eaten. Many ponds in my area have no yellow perch, but perch pattern, floating Rapalas get more strikes than silver or gold jerks. Large Zoom Salty Chunks are as easy to pour as soft sticks and work as well as the original. I don't include salt, but do make them softer for a better tail action that approximates that of a #1 pork frog. Beavers are also another easy bait to mold and pour and cost a fraction of packaged originals. |

you have a point and I know they catch fish year round...just have a hard time with the bass in my personal pond not wanting to eat a very wide range of things. We have frogs, birds, snakes, and insects around the pond, just about it...oh and two dogs. I thought curly tail worms were supposed to be immitating the fin movement of a baitfish? |
