Default Fishing with dogs

I love to fish with dogs. I have 5 dogs. Often, I'll take one or two of them with me in the boat when I fish. They keep me company. Some of them are fascinated with the fish I catch, others are bored. Dogs are coooool. Who fishes with their dog??? Tell me a dog/fishin' story.......

Last spring I got a Black Lab/Collie mix. I always take her with me to the cabin. I took her out in the boat with me. She behaved very good. I made sure I took extra water for her. Every time I caught a bass she jumped up to watch me reel it in. At first she just looked at the fish then I decided to let her have a closer look. After that she would insist that I let her lick every one. That made her happy. I had to make sure she had some shade in the hot sun. It was great having a buddy keep me company.

Yep my black lab likes water too much. Can't take her on the boat, everytime i cast, she jumps out of the boat after it haha. Good company though. There is never a better buddy than a lab when you're around water all the time!

My lab'shepherd mix was a very disciplined obedient dog.... Except around water! He would sit and shake, trying so hard not to jump in, then he would snap and jump in no matter what! Needless to say, 100lbs of canine flopping in the lake/pond river/stream was never good for the bite! He's been gone two years, but i got some great pictures of fishing/swimming trips with the Bear!

I've got a not-so-good dog fishing story. A friend of ours came ot our house to fish our pond. While he stayed on shore with his 8 month old yellow lab, I went out in the 14' rowboat (kind of rediculous on the 1/2 acre pond, but oh well) We was throwing a Bandit 200. Well on one of his casts when the lure was behind his back, the dog decided he wanted to play with the nice shiny lure with the treble hooks. One hook ended up in his upper lip and the other in his bottom gum. He had to be knocked out to get the lure out, but in the end he was ok. We just odn't fish with him any more.

i have a full sized tri-colored collie. his name is king gallahad II. he is the best fishing buddy there is. unlike the wife, he doesn't get bored, don't flip and flop in the back of the boat. have to pee every 30 mins, you get the idea. and he always lets me win at all the private tourneys we have. he truly is my best friend and after 10 years together i doubt if i can ever replace him. hope to have him around another 10 years. by the way a tri is mostly black with white and some brown. i wished i didn't have him fixed now. he could have made us a bunch of money in stud fees. everyone loves him and wants to take him home. one man offered us 500 for him. i told him a million couldn't buy him.

I wouldn't dare take my dog fishing, she is a black and tan coon hound and she barks at every thing especially when she is going fast on a truck. I couldn't imagine what she'd be like on a boat. Jumping out of the boat as we're on plane just like she does when she rides in a truck. Only took one time for her to decide to not jump out of a truck goin 40mph.

basskicker i bet she don't jump anymore huh? lol. hope she is alright for real. my dog would look at me like i was a fool. "me ride in the back?" he has to sit up in the cab, hahaha. heck he would drive if i would let him. and in the boat he is right up front, on the bow..... he loves the wind in his face. great dog, love him almost as much as the wife, lol.
