casting or spinning rod

have been using spinning rods but deceided to try baitcasting rods. seem to be getting the hang of it and enjoying it. i see on fishing tv shows that both bait casting and spinning rods are used. is there a specific fishing method for spinning over fishing with baitcasting or the other way around and when do you use one over the other? why not just use one for all fishing? thanks

I use baitcasters for probably 95% of my fishing. They allow me to use heavier line, lures, and fish heavier cover. Spinning rods for me are technique specific, mainly shakey head and drop shot where I'm throwing light baits. I also just have more confidence with baitcasters-I know if I have a big 'ol good 'un hit a frog in the slop I can get it out with baitcasting gear. I can't say that for spinning gear.

Bottom line, though, is to use what works for YOU, not what works for somebody else.

i agree with reb. yeah there is a place for spinning rods but casting rods are much more accurate casting rods..

I personally go with baitcasting for heavier line and luresl spinning for lightweight, specific lure such as a Shakey Head, Drop-Shot, or finesse PNJ's.

As for spin vs. baitcast, it's all presonal preference. Some may say that one is better for something than the other. IMO, baitcasting has it's advantages: larger line diameter (although I use lighter line than many), more accurate, faster reels, etc. But spinning gear has advantages too: casts light lures (like finesse) easily, casts farther (in most cases). IMO baitcasting gear is more sensitive than spinning gear.

I use Baitcasting for most of my applications: PNJ, Plastics, Big crankbaits, Spinnerbaits, Topwaters. And I use spinning for the rest pretty much: finesse (Dropshot, shakey head), crankbaits (most people use BC though), I also use it to throw light weightless worms like Senkos.

I have to agree with the previous answers here. I use baitcasting equipment for the majority of my fishing. I basically only use spinning gear with lure presentations that are difficult to use baitcasting gear with due to the light casting weight of certain kinds of baits. Plus you won't get the line twist with casting gear that you will with spinning gear, unless you are fishing with inline spinners without a ballbearing swivel.

Like I said before though, it's all personal preference. If you prefer to throw worms on spinning gear, no one can make you do otherwise.

I used to use spin. but now I use baitcasters... It take a while to get used to though, the "bird-nesting" can be frustrating, however, they are high quality, durable, and strong.

Also, braided line will do wonders for baitcasting reels
