carp fishing help
there are alot of carp in 2 of the lakes i fish, but i have not been able to catch them on anything. i've tried berkley powerbait(all flavors), bread, mixed stuff, and others and they havent hit it. the ONLY way i catch them is by foul hooking them, which is hard, and i dont like to do it because if i hit a eye or some other major part they may die. In one lake the average size is 2-5 pounds, in the other i dont know but they are HUGE. im talking 20 pounds +
any help would be apriciated |

Tex,
Get a couple cans of sweet corn and you will get on that carp bite. Get some D-Shot/Octopus hooks and thread as many kernels you can on the hook. Use some type of sinker that when the carp inhale the hook, they can run with the line without resistance. If they feel a lot of weight they will drop it. Try to throw a handful of kernels to the area you will be casting, it will bring a few carp into the area. Also make sure your drag is set properly or you will be missing a rod/reel. Friend of mine is form Eastern Europe and is big into carp fishing and a trick that I picked up from him is to put climbing carabine on the line towards the end of the rod after you cast and set it down, let it hang an inch or two from the rod. This way you can see when they are messing with the corn. Resist temptation until you see the carabine jump up to the rod and the start reeling. I wouldn't set the hook, as 9 times out of ten, it will rip through their soft lips. Just let the sharp hooks do their job. For more info check out: www.carpanglersgroup.com

Dump some corn flakes in a ziploc bag and then pour Big Red on them. No kidding. Just enough to make a dough ball out of them, put them on a circle or octopus hook and have at it.
