Fishing help for this Saturday
This Saturday, I am fishing this lake from 5ish to around 8 am - http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=...cl=1&encType=1
I have not had a bunch of luck here but I know there are some big ones here. The east side of the lake is the dam and it is the deepest there (about 15 to 20 feet). The rest of the lake is around 6 to 10 feet. The shallowest parts are to the west and the south where very slow moving creeks feed the lake. The fish are finicky but I did get the most bites and catches ever the one day I fished from my boat around the non-north bank. The north bank is where the lake sees the most fishing pressure since that is the only bank you can fish from. The water is semiclear and greenish. I can see the bottom only to about 3 feet and then I can't see deeper than that. Do any of you guys suggest a certain type of bait to catch the bigger bass in this lake? Do I need to fish deeper? I am catching < 2# bass using weightless or slightly weighted lizards and flukes. Should I try a crankbait that gets deeper? I plan to devote around the first 30 to 45 minutes fishing topwater with floating frogs, jitterbug, popper, or walking some flukes across the top. I have noticed in the evenings bullfrogs croaking and then I hear a violent splash and don't hear the frog anymore. So I know that frogs are on the fish's diet. I may hit Walmart tonight and get some 10 inch worms (if they got them). Any color suggestions? Any other bait, color, lure, fishing technique suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

Much better than google earth.
Spinnerbaits. tandem blades. chartreuse/white. I'd also try a T-rigged 7" power worm. watermelon candy has been our best color. BB

I like bigger deep diving crankbaits, 10" worms, and jigs for this time of year. After the early morning topwater action is done I'd fish deeper. If your not getting any bites on the bottom then the fish may be suspended out off the bank. Throw a change up at em with a suspending jerkbait. Not too many people fish those this time of year. Believe me... they still catch fish in the summer! Good luck!

any piece of wood laying in the water (above surface or below) is a laydown. the brushy stuff along the bank where those boats are parked looks good. i'd pitch a jig with a craw trailer around those.

FnG, I would be using a split shot rig with a watermelon/red trick worm, or a watermelon Monster worm. I would work it slow around any and all structure in the shallow end of the lake. After the sun comes up good, I would go to the deep part of the lake and throw a Crig with either a Monster worm or a 6" lizard, and fish it very slow, and methodical. If for some reason they are suspended, I would try a rattle trap or a shad rap in the local bait fish colors.
If all else fails, throw a stick of dynamite!!!! lmao

What size hook would you guys recommend when using a 10" worm? Maybe a 4/0 or 5/0 worm hook?
