Default mounting a depth finder tranducer

I have a 16 ft. aluminum bass tracker and I want to put a depth finder up near my trolling motor. Are there any other ways to mount the transducer instead of running it down the shaft of my trolling motor and mounting it? Also is it alright to run power to the same battery as the depth finder mounted on my console? I have a 12 v 54 lb thrust motorguide system. Thanks for the help

Mounting the transducer on the troller shaft is the BEST way to get the CORRECT signal when fishing. Any other mounting means you have to factor in that you are not reading the bottom directly under you. What I mean is if you mount it on the back of the boat you are geting readings that are 16ft behind you. Definatly go ahead and hook it up to where you have the other unit. You wont have any problems.....other than you may have to turn the settings up a tad more on your unit to eliminate any unwanted screen noise.

I'm with Laser. I have one mounted on my TM and no problems. I mounted it with one of these:

Keeps it out of harms way without effecting the performance.

Reb has a nice setup on his boat! Very cool to have two units...one on the trolling motor and one on the back of the boat!
