Default To Hydrofoil or not? That is the question

Well what are the pros and cons of installing a hydrofoil on your motor? Do they really help save fuel? Do they get your boat on plane quicker? Are they worth it?

i have a 1990 Ranger with a 175 yamaha pro v and at first i was thinking i HAD to get one because my boat stood straight up! , but today i went out and figured out how to work it... you cant successfully get a true ansewr without info... what kind of boat, motor, length, and do you have a jack plate?

Yes, they do work but they are not the best solution out there! One thing is that they put strain in places that the motor was not designed to support!

This is the set up you need, They are called Smart Tabs! I have done and continue to do feild testing for them. They are the best thing since sliced bread. You would not beleive the performance they give you. I have them on my Stratos and it handles like a porsche! On plain in an instant, and very stable ride.

If you click on Mobster tabs that is a picture of one of my old boats!!

This is the newer SX on my Stratos!

DBL..........foils can be a good addition.............but only IF the boat is set up correctly. 90% of the time a foil is a bandaid...........such as a underpowered boat or incorrectly setup boat. Explain why you think you need or want one and what boat and motor combo do you have. Right now there are only 2 foils out there that are designed for high performance rigs and I know personally they wont affect topend performance but in fact they will enhance your capability to stay on plane at slower speeds and as well get on plane easier. The 2 foils I am referring to are very small in comprison to the ones you get say at Bass Pro or someplace like that. One is made of carbon fiber and the other is aluminum.
