Hey guys...just wondering what everyone keeps in their boats as necessities? Like i have the lifevests etc. safety devices but like sunscreen, ponchos, water, tools. What do you carry out on the water?

I'm starting to get more gear oriented, used to have a real spartan rig but its getting more crowded. For now I'd say #1 is the cell phone, not only is it good for safety sake should the motor break or something, its good to get weather updates (my friends are all very used to me calling from some randomn lake to get a report on menacing looking cloud formations).
I guess needlenose pliers and visegrips go without saying - but I've found the wd-40 to be handy around the boat too. Also a flashlight, filet knife and spare plug.

OIL- I Have a 2-stroke engine and if you run out of gas your engine will just stop but if you run out of oil then your engine will blow up. I don't want to buy a new engine.
a paddle, a cell phone, and duck tape

Everyone needs to have a "first aid" kit on their boat. It's just like insurance....It's good to have when you need it.

First aid kit, extra change of clothes in large (your partner may need to borrow them) cell phone and a smal box of tools with extra plugs. Heres a tip if space is a premium for ya use those vacum bags to store larger items like the above mentioned clothes. They take up alot less space and stay dry.

a sharp pair of wire cutters for hooks, a boat horn, the type of horn you blow into the side, has a diaphram of shopping bag plastic....extremely loud. Two flashlights.

Cell Phone
NeedleNose Pliers Tools with Spare Plugs Oil (Evinrude XD50) GPS/Depth Finder (removed every time the boat comes out of the water) Sports Drinks, Sodas, FROZEN bottled water (with a livewell full of fish in dead summer, it helps to cool the water, used in moderation) Paddle Change of Clothing Extra Hat Sunglasses (Polarized) Extra Wheel Bearings and caps for trailer. Carb Cleaner (universal cleaner) The list goes on. Fish a tournament just about every weekend. These things are kind of second nature at this point. |
