Default what is your favorite cast types?

when my target is 5 to 20 feet away i go with pitching. when its 20 to 40 i go with a sidearm. 40-60 it is always the overhand. 60-100 feet is 2 handed over the shoulder. is this ok? what cast do yall use? any help or tips would be great.

roll cast lets you fire it low and fast to get under over hanging trees or docks.if i want more distance i lift the rod tip. going real long i cast like swinging a ball bat. i find the roll cast to be less fatiquing than over hand.

surf fishing start faceing away from target:P

roll cast? it is quite hard to explain in words really. start with the rod at waist level 6-8" of line out. rotate your hands -not arms- in a small circular motion. releasing the bait at the right time takes practice.

ok i will admit it this is a very tough question . i know how to do it but getting it out on this thread is not going to good.

mine is either roll or side arm.you dont have to roll cast to get under trees, yet roll castin is easier to skip cast.i like skip castin better because by the time it stops skippin it doesnt scare the fish.

zooker I think you did a pretty fine job of explaining it.

I would add that for a roll cast, let out more line, say 12" when you're just learning, this lets you have more time before you have to release the bait. Then with your rod out to the side, kind of whip the bait around your tip, using a circular motion with the wrist, and release when the bait is at the bottom. Thats about the best that I can explain it.
