Braided line

Im new to using braided line and have a few questions. Why sometimes when I cast long distances does the line get caught causing a minor backlash or just a little knot ...and causing my line to violatly rip back at me? And I usually tie the clinch knot but noticed it doesnt hold well, I now tie a palmor knot. Is that fine?

Braids have a tendency to "dig in" on themselves. This is usually caused by the increased tension during a fight with a fish OR by pulling in an effort to clear a hangup. Lubrication with one of the popular line sprays will help a little and some braids are more prone to dig in than others. It's something to understand and overcome.
It will help, after a hard fight or cantankerous snag, to manually strip line off the spool until all "dig-ins" are cleared, then reel the line back on under SOME tension, using thumb and forefinger. Be careful, as braid will burn or cut you!
Knots...Yes, a well-tied Palomar is a great choice for braids as well as most other lines and applications. Be certain, when tying the Palomar, to make sure the open loop is not twisted, not even one turn's worth, before you pass the lure or hook through. Then, make certain to wet the knot liberally with saliva as before cinching it down...with ALL lines, that is, as friction=heat=line damage. If you carry a butane lighter on board, trim the tag end to no shorter than 1/3 inch, cover the knot with thumb and forefinger, and melt the tag end to about 1/4 inch or slightly less. OR...on a DRY Palomar, apply a TINY drop of super-glue to the knot.
Now...READ AND HEED! Never, ever, wrap braid around ANY part of your anatomy when trying to pull free of a snag. The stuff will cut to the bone with amazing ease.

Yew are most welkum! I too am using PowerPro in the 20 and 30 test 'cause I needed a bright yellow line and my regular choice wasn't offered in Yellow. I've been quite satisfied so far.
When the time comes to buy some more braid, and that might be years since the stuff doesn't decay, consider the purchase of Yellow. Why? Well, one of the most common and well-justified gripes re braid is that it's darned hard to watch your line for that subtle tell-tail "tic" that you might not feel when fishing worms and other slow presentation lures.
Worried about the BASS seeing it? No problem. When using it for slow work I attach, via the DuPont J-Knot, a 6' leader. For that I use, exclusively, P-Line CFX fluorocarbon leader material. The stuff is sold in 25 meter spools and is tougher than regular fluoro.
On the other hand, if you are fishing "Fast" lures, especially surface lures such as toads, buZZZZZZbaits, etc, line visibility is not an issue. Ergo, the leader is not needed. Why not use your dark braid for the faster lures and go to Yellow for the applications I've mentioned?

in the last issue of north american fisherman they revisited what they called a knot challenge and with the so dubbed superlines the palomar knot was the only one that seemed to hold in braided lines under extreme pressure . they also mentioned that they used a large assortment of lines for the tests . and i also use power pro and now berkely fireline

Errrr...Ummmm....Ehhhhhh....Jim.
What I was referring to was the knot used in joining the braid to the leader.
There's no way a Palomar would fill that bill, but it is, generally, THE knot for tying on hooks and lures.
The ^#%@! J-Knot is hard enough to master, but if you tried to join line to leader with Palomars, you'd soon look like a cat ensnarled in a ball of yarn.

I use a uni to uni knot when tying braid to mono. I have become really good at it and that seems to hold up very well.

I use the 20lb power pro in green and sometimes worry about the fish maybe seeing it in clear water. I really dont do all the leader stuff. And the only reason I use the power pro is because I fish some nasty structure sometimes and Im done losing fish. Like I said thanks for clearing up the spool problem for me I wasnt sure why it kept doing that but I gotta start taking care of it !

i wasn't reffering to line to line tying L6 , mojo had asked if using the palomar was ok with braid and i was simply answering with some info from a article i read about a month ago .

L6 i think the smiley is to close to the link i clicked it and it came up to youtube with the message malformed link . and i only have a dumbed down version of a internet browser (it's a child browser set up for company websites luckily i can get to google and this site through that )at work so I'll give it a look later tonight from home .
