A new set up

Im looking for a new set up for pitching and jigging and such. I was thinking about the garcia revo stx 7to1 reel with the garcia 7 foot mh vendetta rod. I think this is what I want but would like to hear other opinions. Thanks.

I am with bama, I do not like eva foam grips on a rod, I much prefer cork... My pitching rod is a 7' MH, with a Cabelas Prodigy Reel, rods and reels are much a personal choice... one thing I do favor though on a flipping and pitching reel is a power handle, I have the BPS Power handle on my Cabela's Prodigy, and I love it...

While most guys will tell you a H rod will work better, it all depends on the cover you're fishing. As long as you're not pitching into extremely thick mats and tons of thick weeds, you'll be fine with a MH rod.

I use a 7' H Loomis rod. I think the H rod is a bit too much for the cover I fish, but I got the rod cheap and I'd rather be overpowered than under.

I definately like a 7:1 gear ratio for pitching so I can get the lure back to the boat faster to make another cast, and to pick up slack faster to set the hook.

Good choice on the reel, I like them a lot and the 7.1.1 will allow you to reel up a lot faster. Do not have much experience with the Vendetta. I would probably get a heavier rod, but that is just my opinion and like BB144 said it all does depend on the type of cover you will be fishing with it. Sounds like a good setup regardless good luck with it.

I think that would be an excellent choice....I use a MH 7' rod for that application with Revo S reel 6:4, I think?...Im bad at remember numbers.
But I dont feel the need to go any longer than that in my area...And the reel handles the technique perfectly.
I personally prefer the EVA grips (Just sooo comfy)...Im probaby gonna swap all my rod grips out with them.
Im still looking to handle a Vendetta...Im sure its a good rod.

Not to bad at all! But if you can, I'd try to get a little lighter set up! Flipping all day can really ware you out and leave your arms feeling sore for the next two days! So the lighter you can get the better! A revo premier with a carrot sick or cumara would be a great combo IMO! But that's almost a 400 $ combo.

Hey Apt79, I called Gander for ya and they said that reel can be purchased on line after 12AM for $99.00. It would definately be worth logging on to see for sure. I know I will be.

Good reel. I'd go with a H action rod, though. Pitching is a short line application so the H action will allow you to horse the fish out of thicker cover easier than a lighter rod. I would also spool up with at least 50 lb braid.

Flippin' plastic, I use a Kislter HE70HC (7' H) paired with a Shimano Quickfire (Castaic). This is the only Shimano reel I own - I really like the thumb bar to engage the reel, for me it's ideal. Other's don't like it and to each his own. But I'll agree on the above statement concerning light weight rods. Althought the Quickfire is a bit weigthy, it's acceptable for the other advantages offered for me.
