Default Rod handle restoration complete. Pic heavy

First I want to give my thanks to Garey and Walker for their guidence in this project. Your assistance was very much appreciated! The rod I worked on is a rod that once belonged to our friend Zooker. It was obviously a rod he used extensively. It was well worn with many cracks, holes, and chips. I recieved it last year from Zookers mother through John and wanted to restore it so that the rods integrity could be preserved. I intend to continue to use this rod and the reel that came with it. I'll be thinking of Zooker every time I land a bass with it. I think that would make him smile. The finished product looks pretty darn good I think. It's not like perfectly new, and thats not what my intentions were. There are a few minor inperfections here and there and thats what I wanted. It helps keep the rods character. So here are a few pics of the project as it unfolded.

Wow! Beautiful restoration job Keith! It doesn't even look like the same rod!

It's an American Rodsmith David Frittz series cranking rod. It's 7 foot but the rest of the info is worn off the label. Acts like a med/mod action.

Nice work, Keith!

Those are some great cranking sticks.

The one I own is the David Fritts MH cranking stick. I do all of my deep cranking with it.

Zooker would be proud.

Thanks Woody. It might be a MH but it's hard to tell. I know I used it last fall to cast some big deep divers and it flung them a mile!

Very impressive work Keith! That rod looks looks like it is in "like new" condition but still has plenty of character.

That is a beautiful way to remember a friend and to know He's with you everytime you get a chance to enjoy the sport you both love.

Well done sir. I look forward to other phone calls with you and glad I could offer a little assistance. You have inspired me to place an order of the cork sealer for sure!

Your help was very much appreciated buddy. I think your going to like the cork sealer. The cork has a very nice feel to it after it's applied.

Nice Job! I heard on another forum from a guy who applies Tru Oil to his cork grips. Anyone ever try it and how did you like it if you did?

Again, nice work Kieth.
I have to ask.
I've been seeing and hearing alot about restoring cork grips.
Is this strickly done for cosmetic reasons or life expectancy reasons or is there other reasons?

Joe, I did it for both. The cork was in such poor shape I was afraid this rods life wasn't going to last much longer. But I also wanted to restore the looks of the rod. I do intend to use this rod so I wanted it to be restored before I started taking it back out into the elements.
