Default Poorest performing bait you have used?

I figured this would make a nice thread that we could share our experiences with.

What is the poorest performing bait, lure, scent, or other product you have actually used?

I have been trying to pinpoint one thing that just hasn't worked for me that I have truly tried on multiple occasions.

The one item I came up with (that i still believe would work) is the old Babe Winklemans Eel. I will get its real name and post a picture if I can find some info on it.

* Edit its the Bill Dance Dancing EEL. My mistake

I suppose my worst bait was a home made mixture, baby cucumbers soaked in Vodka for 36 hrs with a 5.0 EWG Gammy hook. No luck at all. Got tired of fishing and started eating those lil pickle baits, after about a dozen of those lil goodies, I wuz ready to dive fur those hawgs, caught several catfish weighed over five poundss. That is how Polly and I got into catfish noodlen. C Man

The flying lure and the helicopter lure. (yes I bought them). As far as the torpedo, I've caught a few nice bass on them. Keep trying it. Sooner or later you'll hook up.

I have been having bad luck with some of the smaller Strike King stuff lately. I don't expect it to be LuckyCraft when I pay $2 for it, but I think that a crank should be able to be tuned to run straight, and that a spinnerbaits blades should turn and then not fall off in your hand. I thought it would be some good stuff for wading, but...

I am not one to normally run down any crankbait, as i love them all. But i have to say, I have bought several of the Strike King cranks, in all sizes and my favorite colors, and They were just aweful. I could not keep them running true and they just have not caught me any fish. When I cannot catch ANY fish on a certain crankbait, there's definatly something wrong. I gave them away to a neighbor. He dosn't like them either. Needless to say, I won't spend my money on them anymore.

I agree Strike King is crap for cranks, spinenrs and buzzers are great. My favorite crank is Rapala Shad Rap!

Mymomisbecky is right, I have used the banjo minow for a long time now and seem to get ok results with it. As far as the worst I would say some sort of crank bait, I dont even know the name of it because I pitched pretty quick.

I myself do not like the action on Storm Chug bugs. I've caught some fish with them, but I would much rather fish a rebl or excalibur...

Culprit water beetle. They are similar to Zoom beavers. Since I had never caught anything on them, I tried an experiment one day in an approximately 15ft radius area. I caught a 2.5 lb bass on a paca craw. Then I switched to the water beetle. Nothing. I switched back to the paca craw. I caught a bass. I did this five times. I used each lure about the same amount of time in the same manner. The color of the paca craw and water beetle were very similar. Either the water beetle sucks or the paca craw rocks. Water beetle zero. Paca craw five.

Yeah lets see him find a pic of that eel I am talking about!! I have been trying for a bit now...

I do remember I have a sealed one at home. I came across it at a goodwill.... actually I came across about 10 of them and ten of Babe's Lifelike soft crayfish. I bought an eel to give to my uncle as a joke because he bought me my original one about 15 years ago. Before a trip to the U.P. fishing. I forgot I had it so I will get a pic tonight to show you guys.

I bought a Matzuo propbait from walmart last month - that sinks. I'm serious, I tied the d#&^ thing on and it sinks right when you put it in the water. That was a new one for me.

hmmm, tough to say, I've had a lot of baits that had a good action, just didn't manage to catch fish, so I can't really say they didn't perform, fish just weren't i nthe mood, I've also had a lot of baits that had horrible action but still managed to catch fish. I had a lucky craft live pointer with HORRIBLE action, I've still managed to catch fish with it. although spinnerbaits have almost always been a waste of my time.

I think the issue is it is a smallmouth bait. It works great for smallies worked fast.

Matzuo Rattletraps that come in 5-packs...these things are horrible and dont even run straight. The rattle never works either.

How about the Vampire Lure that Hank Parker put his name on????? Anybody catch fish on that? I still have one that I got with a subscription. I figured I'd keep it and sell it in 40 years for a few hundred dollars. Maybe not, they still sell them at Mann's.

I've seen large 2lb bluegill suck down tiny torpedoes.

Capt Mike - Norman has made a couple crankbaits that do run straight and I have them. I can rent you one!

Torpedos have done extremely well for me. Most lures I use will have their time and place. I have caught some of my biggest fish on Strike King spinners, but their buzzbaits just don't seem to run true, and the rubber bands on their jigs seem to always break. Now that I think about it, Strike King probably has the least dependant lures I've ever used.
