FINALLY! ended my drought!
Yesterday morning I went out on Liberty Res. here in MD and caught something. After like... 2 hours of trying topwater buzzbait and then willow spinner. I used a senko on a drop shot. First fish in like a month. He took the bait as soon as it hit the water. I'm so tired of getting skunked... and just the other day i thru my damn 7' mh bill dance spinning rod in the lake in a really deep part of the lake cause i was casting and didnt have a good handle on it. and then one of my oarlocks broke. but that was all made right by me FINALLY catching a bass!
btw, when i fish with a crankbait.. is it ok to bounce it off the bottom? |

Boy, sounds like the makings of America's funniest home videos
All kidding aside, yes it is a good thing to bounce a crankbait off of the bottom. That is one of the many ways to work them. When you bounce them off the bottom it stirs up mud and leaves a trail of mud running through the water which will cause a bass to wonder what the heck is going on. It also tends to look like a baitfish is feeding on something along the bottom or chasing something.

A lot of people will running deep diving crank baits in shallow water just for that reason. The mud bottom stirs up like bassbooger said and also when the bottom is rocky the clicking sounds from it hitting off the rocks really attracts fish!

Yeah, there is a reservior we fish that is all big concrete chunks and I'll throw a Bandit 300 crank from shore and let it bounce off the chunks of concrete.
bb144 ps: congrats on finally catching one. now I wish I could.

Thanks... plan on going out tomorrow mid morning after it warms up a little. Got some dropshot worms i wanna try out. I think im going to just fish with soft plastics from now on till i feel confident about what im doing. Then move on to spinner or crank or something like that. This is my first season fishing so things are moving pretty slowly. I appreciate all the tips

air,
i feel you pain, sorta. This is my first summer that i fished in a long time and it started out great. I was catching bass everytime i went fishing for about 3 weeks. i then started getting skunked. I then purchased a kayak and fishing resolved itself for about 2 trips then i've been getting skunked or close to it every trip. I am finding this transition between summer and fall tough lure wise, nothing i seem to try work. Again, good luck on ending your drought. |

Hahaha, that made me chuckle. I'm sure just a typing error, or something of the such... And if not... well then
