Default Oxygen Generators?????

There are quite a few subdivisions around the Houston area that have stocked, man-made lakes in the front of them. Most of them have those water features (???) that spray the water up in the air. I would have to guess that the home builders/developers think that this helps sell houses....???

Anyway, I was wondering, do those water features help to put oxygen back into the water? How does this affect turn-over??? Will lakes that have these features running full-time, year round have larger bass? Will these fish feed more actively during the cooler months? Will they remain in the shallows longer due to more available oxygen in the water?

Can someone more knowledgeable than myself shed some light on this scenario?

Thanks in advance!

Your refering to a aerator which puts oxygen in the water and helps circulate.
I've got a small one in my pond and its about 200 bucks..helps up north to keep the water from freezing, to a point.

We don't have any type of freezing problem in Houston.

Pretty much every sub-division with a pond has one. It has to be for decorative purposes. I can't imagine that the home builders/developers give a crap about whether or not the fish are doing well.

I was just wondering if those ponds might be better candidates to fish-as compared to ponds that don't have them.

Well buggy I can tell ya one thing. If there is fish in them and I feellike there is they would be a healthier fish due to the oxygen rich enviorment.

it would generate more oxygen than just a standard pond w/ out it so yes it would be a much more healthy invironment and the fish should be more active in them.

I would think they would help add O2 which would be helpful to bass in the warmer months, but it would also increase evaporation and eventually lower the water levels.
IMO, you don't screw with mother nature for asthetic reasons....

I think they also help to keep the water from becoming stagnant.
