A couple of on the bench
I haven't been around a whole lot lately, but I have been pretty busy on the rod bench with some of my own personal builds. Here are a few pics. The first is a Fishing Tackle Unlimited 7' M-ModFast for top water I hope to be using in a few days. I ran micro guides wrapped on a double layer of gold thread. (I wish I could stop the bleed thru with light nylons for a single layer). I also used a Castaway super exposed reel seat. The tiger wrap is 3 layers and came out subtle, but I like it. I will get the final weight with more coat of epoxy on the tiger.
This is a wrap I am working on for a buzz bait / misc rod. It is a Castaway White 844P blank. I just have the butt wrap ready and going to be installing a 9-10" handle on it and micro #3s. Here is the wrap in progress: And the last is for an 8' Rainshadow RX7 944 H-F for frog fishing and just the wrap. I think I am going to run a 12" handle and Fuji #5s all the way down. This stick will double for my wife's broom stick when not in use. Now if I can just make it to the water to try then out.

The FTU rod came in at 3.8 oz. I am still shooting for 3.5 a PB and then maybe 3 with some of the blanks coming out. I might could have came close without the tiger wrap. But I needed to pull some weight back down to the end of the rod to balance in out. I do all these wraps on excel with straight lines. I need to work on using measurements to try a few closed wraps (None of the blank showing). But I have to get my math down to compensate the reduction in diameter and the diamonds to have it come out right. It takes too much time to be fanagling with these for too many screw ups and interest would be lost quick. That is 132 wraps, 1 way, and each thread is individually laid one at a time and then wrapped and ran back down.
Nobass, I do rods and repairs for myself and others. But not a big tymer, just a hobby builder.

Man you are rocking and rolling with it! I meant to ask you.(I think you told me in that text though). On the 3 layer tiger. Did you do three threads/One sacrifice on the 2nd blk/white layer?...All the work looks killa gorilla.
I dont know why I said that?

The second layer is a black/white/sacrifice(3 thread). The third layer is blk/gold/sacrifice. The bottom layer remains untold hahahahaha. Gorillaz in the mist homey!

Just thought I would show you the matching Okuma Serrano I put on the rod. The reel was clean due to over greasing, but it is as smooth as silk now. Thanks to you know who you are for that. It is a topwater slinging machine now. If the integrity holds up a while, I will not hesitate to buy a couple more. I think my only gripe about the reel is the smaller knobs on the handle. But if it will stay as smooth and easy casting as it is now, I can work around that.
And a couple of the tiger out in the sun:

The Yellow Magic has proved to be magical. It is a popper and dog walker wrapped in to 1. Who could ask for more?

Like Kory said, in casting, its like running a moped next to a Busa. It will outcast double time.
