Default What was your first?

Baitcast reel?
Your first fishing rod?

My first baitcaster was a Ryobi.
My first rod & reel was a Southbend spincast my mother bought for me with stamps. I can't remember if they were yellow or green stamps. Those of us old enough remember those.

First Rod/Reel: Snoopy... Honest to God.

Then a Johnson Spin Cast of some sort

First Baitcaster was an Abu Garcia/Ambasadeur Maxxar back in the early 90's up until that point had used Dads old Abu Roundies....

I owned 3 Johnson 710's & a Johnson Guide at one time. Really fairly good reels.

When my kids reached the age I thought they might fish with me I bought them both a Berkeley spincast outfit. They were remarkeably strong.

Default First Reel & Rod

I was about 12 when I got my first spinning reel – a ‘Bronson Buddy’ from the Sears catalog. Other than the Mitchell 300 that my uncle owned, it was the only spinner I had ever seen, let alone used. (Before that, fishing had been the bamboo pole, live redworms, and bobber scenario.) As I recall, this Bronson reel cost about $3.95, making it a low-end model even in those uninflated days.

The rod I purchased to use with it was a total abortion! It was somebody's bad idea to make this all-purpose metal telescoping rod that could serve as a fly rod when fully extended, or a spinning/bait casting rod when only partially extended. (It was sort of like trying to fish with an extendable radio antenna off an old car.) Needless to say, I didn't keep this "rod" very long and later got a fiberglass spinning rod, but I have no idea what brand it was.

It's ironic how things have changed. Back then I had all the time in the world to fish, but I only had access to inferior equipment. Now I have good equipment but fewer opportunities to use it. Ah, them wuz the days....

.

I have no idea. I'm sure it was a cheap Walmart baitcast combo, 20 yrs or so ago. My first rod and reel when I was a little kid was a Zebco 33 Classic combo.

S&H Green stamps - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%26H_Green_Stamps
Remember them well. There were also Blue stamps in our neck of the woods.

I think my first rod and reel was a Zebco back in the around about 1960.

My first baitcaster was purchased last year but mostly sets in the garage.

My dad used an old school bait casting rod and reel with good old Newton Line on it.

I got my first baitcasting setup three years ago: a Daiwa Procaster SE-L (green one, I think a Cabela's exclusive) on a Cabela's Fish Eagle II rod.

Once I graduated from kiddy poles, I fished with my dad's Fenwick UL spinning setup for as long as I can remember before getting my first BC reel.

My first baitcaster was a Phlueger Supream I bought in 1973. Hated it, lol. My first rod and reel was an old fiberglass rod with a Zebco 202 that my dad snagged off the bottom of the lake in Canada and brought back for me. I was about 8 years old then.

First reel was a Garcia Abu-Matic 60, given to me by my Grandmother. It is a great reel and I still have it. Not sure what the rod was, it is long gone.

Zebco really did influence a generation or more with affordable easy to use gear.

My first baitcast reel was an early model Quantum.....It was combo'd with a custom built pistol grip graphite rod made by Okiebug tackle in Tulsa, Ok. Which is also the home to Zebco. The combo was a gift from a fishin buddy because I wouldn't spend that much money on fishin equipment......It was my introduction to what was concidered "Quality" tackle at the time....It made a believer outta me....lol.....My first fishing pole of any kind was a cane pole.

First rod and reel, I still have it, is a Zebco kids model rod and reel. It's about 3 feet long.

First baitcaster was a Bantam 100 on a Berkley rod.

First baiitcaster Shamano Bantam Mag Plus 250. Rod was a 5 1/2 ft Bass Pro Boron pistol grip. First spinning reel was bought from an Army and Navy store. Don't remember the brand or the rod either. That was back in the end of the 50's. Before that old baitcasters and either a steel or fiberglass rod that was just like the steel rod.

First baitcaster was a round reel, the abu g 5-star. I bought with the handle on the side I don't prefer and didn't realize it, so I bought a left hand Shimano 201BSF. The abu g got an upgraded drag and abec 7 bearings and it is sweet.

First rod and reel was a $19.99 spinning combo that I have dubbed my "Walmart Special." It caught a ton of fish. I still have the rod, but the spinning reel is gone. I broke it trying to clean and overhaul it.

First bait caster was an Abu Garcia.

First rod was a bamboo cane pole. I can't tell you what my first combo was, too long ago, too many come and gone since then.
