so lets pich our rods instead of baits
first off fishing sucked, so I was teaching my brother how to pitch. 1st lesson learned. teach on LAND, but hey it was a nice 80 degree day and we had time to kill. thank God i took my smoke off my frog rod and put a PQ, it was better set for pitchin. 3rd try.. lift rod tip up and let er fly.. not the rod. both went. put on my Dt 16s and combed the area.. Nothing.. Out a shimano claurus and a PQ.. reapeat lesson learned; all teaching on land. glad I didnt give him my main pitchen set up, i would have cried.

That SUCKS - hope he's buying you a new rod & reel. It's too late, but with my perfect 20/20 hindsight may I suggest this "teaching aid"?
Blakemore Rod Floater - available at the Den of Iniquity (aka: Bass Pro Shop), but you could also make your own. Would not have to be fancy, for a training exercise anyway. |

The float isn't a bad idea. Also, I know Islandbass made a "leash" for his kids to wear when they use his rods. I think it's a Velcro strap to go around their wrist, a short tether, and another Velcro strap on the rod somewhere. Might not be a bad idea to strap that sucker to your buddy next time. Maybe tie it around his b@!!$ instead of his wrist, so he'll be even less likely to lose one of your combos....

i like the velco, i may pic at least one up, thanks..but there wont be any learning from boat, i have no ideal in Gods green earth why he threw the rod. he is a jobless senoir, i will be seeing bits of cash when he does help out doing odd jobs, lol if he wasnt extreamly upset i would have threw him in after it.. but i am sure there as a kid across the cove that got grounded for asking mommy what f$$$ word was.. i iked out worser than Ike for like 3 minutes.

I hate you lost your rig, if y'all were standing on the bank, heck even a pier, someone would still be swimming. Jus sayin. How deep was the water, +10'?

What?! You didn't jump in after it? Just kidding, that is a real bummer.
I have prepared for that contingent with my kids and devised what I call a homemade rod leash (think like a leash on a surf or snowboard). I took these items: And put them together like this: So that if my kids accidentally let go, they wouldn't lose the rig. When the leash is attached to the wrist of the casting hand, the leash does not get in the way at all. It's 100% effective except for when they take off the leash, which my son did. Fortunately, it was only a spiderman rod and a superman rod, lol.

I lost a 50 dollar micro rod (twenty years ago) cast up stream north and a southbound striper took it out of my paws.I even posted signs saying reward for striper with pole attached on nearby telephone poles had no takers.
Candy stripers wouldnt talk to me fer a long time. Do they even exist anymore?Havnt seen one in 20 years, but dont get out as much. Ah it wasnt that great a rod considering the cost as would not toss super light stuff. Oh well whats gone is gone,I would go back there every now n then an dredge.Just to keep my hopes up. And if you dunno what a candy striper is or was they wore a candy red and white uniform and volunteered at hospitals, generally young. |

My fear is doing that very thing or having it jerked from my hand in a moment of inattention. I can't imagine how sick you must have felt.
And a hearty AYE to the Den of Iniquity (henceforth the DoI)! |

Loosing a rod and reel overboard is a sickening feeling. I feel for ya bud. I lost a Revo mounted on a Pro Qualifier rod several years ago overboard due to another wreckless boater dragging a skier around and sideswipping my jon boat. The rocking of the boat was so bad I went flying and so did my outfit. And my brother lost his first casting outfit last year. A PQ mounted to a Garcia Vendetta. He wanted to make one more long cast before heading in and lost his grip and it went sailing into the deep. I hope your able to replace it soon Wally.

I will replace my PQ, it is one my fav pitchen reels, the rod wont get replaced with the same.... Bubba has cooked up somthing beyond imagine and will be here soon... I told him it will increase my frog fishing 10x since i will be paying attention to the detail of the rod more than watching the blowups... so my smoke paired with a custom out of this world rod.. i may get over it.. thing was I was pitchin an iobee gill color, so nothing he wants to learn. I take my smoke off the rod..( yea i had the time, fishing really sucked) so he could pitch the frog with clarus.. my PQ was on a 7'6 rod and he couldnt get at all with the longer rod. so yea i did think what if he tore it up, so thats why i took smoke off. tied iobee on, shoulda put on a 5 buck padcrasher, lol

That woulda flown...
Naw, it popped off the back of my Dad's 14' v hull. Hit some standing timber way out in the middle of lake seminole while going full bore, heard the motor rev and turned around in time to see the foot come fully out of the water and it sink powerhead first.
