Default fishing myths?

Hey guys... Well, I have been watching that show Mythbusters on Discovery a lot recently, and I figured, Hey, Why not some fishing myths? Might be cool... I was thinking bananas on a boat. Some people don't beleive in it (including me) and some people swear by it. Some people say they have had bananas in their boat and caught fish, others won't let them on.
Another one I thought would be interesting is Red hooks, or paint... Just the idea of red attracting fish.

Ideas or comments?

The banana idea is more a superstition not a myth. The red hook idea is a gimmick that big name companies came out with to sell more product.

Haha sorry I just had to shoot those 2 down...

I loves me some 'nanners! I'm quite certain that they do NOT negatively impact one's fishing!

I've heard that, but the version I heard is that you have to tell someone after it happens... Anyways that too is more of a superstition but I do follow it.

the only one i swear by is
if you catch a bass on the first cast, many times the rest of the day you
won't get bit again.

the dragon fly story made me remember about 20 years ago when I finally got some quality rods, a small dragonfly landed on it and the rod was so sensitive
I thought I had a bass biting...I learned right there
the dif. between a 19 dollar rod and a 150 dollar one...it was amazing.
Just like fishing with braid for the first time, you feel a LOT more of the bite IMO

cranky,
its funny you mentioned the power line thing, I had never heard that one before, and over at brookville lake the whole east side bank/coves has gimongus power lines over head about 300 ft up there, and they hum.
Many times the fishing is really good under those line believe it or not....

This is as true a superstition as there is.

"Don;t touch dat rod he feel da lectricyity"

Fact or fiction?

I hate that dont touch the rod thing! When river fishin i always hold my rod or you miss more fish and you gotta move the bait too so it keeps the fish close by.

Another "Superstition" I have is something I call the 30 minute rule, If i dont get bit or catch anything in the first 30 mins Im not gonna catch anything in that spot all day so I move.

I've heard something like that.

there is a wiise superstition about the best times ot fish. and I follow it strictly: Only fish on days that end in "Y"

anyways, anyone ever heard about "wind form the eat, fish bite the least. wind from the west, fish bite the best." ???

My dad always used to tell me that and I still wonder if it's true.

ahem...

Wind from the West, fish bite the best.
Wind from the East, fish bite the least.
Wind from the North, do not go forth.
Wind from the South blows bait in their mouth.

That sounds like it may have been spawned on the Great Lakes JB, as it certainly holds true up here, at least with some of the Species, a northerly or easterly wind will blow up some severe waves up here, and I know that it will turn off the Salmon and Steelhead. The walleye and perch don't seem to care what the waves are like, though the walleye seem to like it rough (water you perverts) as it diffuses the light which they are sensitive to. No clue what bass and other species are like though.

Speaking of "wind myths", I have heard that the side of lake to which the wind is blowing is where the fish will be found.

I believe that its the bank in which the wind is blowing from. Something to do with the wind blowing insects and what not into the water??? I have no idea.
