slow moving worm? like a 4 or 5 inch texas rigged powerworm? id just lightly jerk it every 10 seconds. im so excited... and which one of my reels should i use? my avid rod and stradic reel are coming in on friday, so ill have to use my avocet rod with my cardinal or avocet reel. thing is, the cardinal is last years version and its got a trigger, so the hook set isnt great. i hope i catch one!

Cranky, quit asking if you should go and GO!

I'm going to pass on something most of us already know:

The best time to go fishing is:

ANYTIME YOU CAN !

Cranky, I said keep posting but you don't need to give us a play-by-play. If you go, just give one post with your report. Good luck if you go!

Check your hooks, Cranky-if they aren't sharp enough to dig into your fingernail with just a little pressure they need to be sharpened.

wrong... what a bummer. went, and got the bail of my avocet busted when i hit a tree and didnt notice my line wasnt in the water. i went to get my cardinal, and got totaly skunked. and JB, i was using my avocet rod the whole time anyways... and reb, i left before you said that. i coulda swore i had a bite, thing is the damn cardinal has a trigger, and i was so excited that i forgot to hold the handle before setting the hook. i dont even know how to sharpen hooks anyways. i threw 2 different kinds of powerworms, a yum dinger, and a senko knockoff by zoom. couldnt even find any panfish to catch by the dock. total bummer, i was sure i was going to get a catch

Well, Cranky, that's why they call it fishin' and not catching . Don't let it get you down-everybody gets skunked once in a while. And you learn something every trip-maybe you learn what to do, maybe you learn what NOT to do.

Whenever I'm using a spinning rod when I set the hook I grab the spool-that keeps the drag from slipping on the hookset and keeps the bail from tripping.

Keep at it-when the water warms up some more you will find more active fish and you'll get 'em.

Nope-I grab the spool with my left hand. Just on the hookset, then grab the handle and start reeling. I only do that with a bait I have to set the hook on like a worm, but it works for me. Been doing it so long it is automatic-like switching a baitcaster from my right hand to my left on the cast-I do it without thinking.

With a spinnin rod, I do a reeling hook set, reel when setting the hook. It helps out, but if you use a MH spining, dont do that, you will pull lures outta there mouths
