small fish
I have been fishing a small pond that was recently stocked. All the fish are small right now. What is a good bait to use when fishing for young fish.

hmm i would use worms and stuff like bread for small bass. I catch a lot of small bass on a small jointed rapala. You may want to try that.

I would try sizing down some plastics worms or using crappie jigs of some kind, or maybe really small spinners. And even thought Fishing4Soup is right about the worms and bread but the bad thing about those two things are...EVERYTHING will bite at it. If you are just targeting bass i would find something that not every blue gill passing by will try and snatch at. But give some things a try. Good fishin"

I'd wait a couple years to let the population settle in and grow.

I think Ken is correct. Be patient! My dad and I dug a 1.5 acre pond in July of 2001 and stocked it in November of 2001. We did not fish it until spring of 2004 (for bass). We did a little bluegill fishing the previous fall. Pond maintance takes a lot of time during the first couple of years. By the way, last summer we caught several bass in the 4.5 pound range. This year, the biggest is just under 4 pounds. Catfish run 6-9 pounds and bluegill are over 8 inches in length. Yesterday, I caught 20-25 bass in 4 hours and missed 10-15. I had a blast! I love our little pond. |

We dug our large pond (22 acres) about 7 years ago. The small bass bite on small jigs panfishbait and i like to use a small jointed rapala. Also u can try to use some redtails or another livebait with a bobber. Its not as fun but u will catch fish
