Turkey calls
Anybody got any thoughts on a good inexpensive turkey call? Something relatively simple to get a decent call?
Going out Monday evening and would like to stop at Gander Mt and pick one up. |

A box call is easy to use and primos makes some good ones. I would think a salesman at GTM should be helpful. A slate works great as well and does not take long to get the hang of it. A call is sorta a individual thing. One will like this and another will like that. Good Luck.

a box call will work..
but kicker turkey hunters make fishermen look sane in the equipment department.. i have 4 slate calls-7 differant strikers-, two box calls,3 push button calls,a crow call,a owl call,a goose call,a goobler call, and 8 mouth calls..they all are in my turkey vest-with comfortable air seat-just walking thru the woods you sound like an empty coffee can being rolled down steps.. however most of mine are very custom stuff, you don't find these in walmart.. the bottom one is mine.it is a holly and snake wood this one is cedar walnut.. this is a crow caller-sadly he don't make these anymore- or this one.it's a maple pot with a red heart striker.. i have takin 34 turkey eastern,ocala-fla-, and one rio grand turkey- which got burned up at the taxidermist-3 with a bow, 8-10 with a 20 gauge,a couple with a 12 bore and the rest with a 10 gauge-zookie don't play anymore- zooker

Got on the property yesterday at 6PM. Owner took me on a little tour of the property line. He hadn't seen many turkey's recently but knew that they were around. He asked if I wanted to take the gun with me but I declined. Sure enough we got about forty yards from the garage and I saw a jake slip back into the woods from a small field. We also spooked a rabbit on our way to an old road that runs through the property.
Took the tour and saw some nice deer and turkey tracks. Got my gear on loaded the gun and set off. Saw the rabbit again and could have shot it a second time. Spent an hour and a half at three different locations and never saw anything. Heard one gobble way off in the distance but nothing close. Finished the evening looking for the rabbit but it got wise and took off. Good thing for me cuz that season ended last month.... It was a good evening in the woods. Had a hummingbird land in a tree right behind me while I was standing on a ridge. Those things sure make a lot of noise for a tiny bird. |
