Except for the partyers, the rest of us are annoyed by this additional excuse to get drunk and act like a fool, and then drive drunk... this time of year (mid Feb to late March) always has the most DUI/DWI arrests along the gulf coast due to Mardis Gras, spring break, St Pats day and the other "drinking" holidays.

Wow; Mardi Gras in New orleans; I lived and played through 8 of them, completly loaded as I was not yet in recovery

I was at one when I made 10 years clean; there are many folks celebrating, digging the parades and music who dont get loaded. This is a primary source of income for a city very hurt by Katrina, As with anything else , you get what you go looking for,I am glad you are not speaking for all those folks, I met many fine people in New Orleans.
Peace Out

Pick me up on your way down. I've never be either. I can be your designated driver cause I don't drink anymore. I won't promise I won't trade all our beads though.

I understand that, I am just speaking from a good portion of locals along the gulf coast here that tend to be more annoyed with the constant party scene, rather than the usual tourists. By locals I am saying people closer my way, typically from Mobile to Tallahassee where these dumb city planners keep throwing these local Mardis Gras events where they get more local people to drink and then drive home... The police are starting to speak up trying to stop certain events

A good portion of the locals....
I lived in the Garden District for 2 years, a couple of years in the quater, then moved to Fat City for a bit and owned a house in Covington. My experience with a good portion of the locals, was they had a wonderful time with Mardi Gras and appreciated the financial wind fall it brought each year. I made 1/2 my annual salary from Sugar Bowl , thorugh Mardi Gras and into Jazz Fest. Mardi Gras. was full of history, the finest marching/funk bands in the country and some major league babes, I really heard little to complain about in New Orleans, which is a bit down the road form Florida via I 10 , last I made the drive.
I met folks from All over Louisiana,Alabama,Florida, Texas and Missisippi and they all seemed to love Mardi Gras.

There is a wondeful PBS documentary on Mardi Gras. Bill Smith the great float builder in New Orleans, brought this up during his interview, that was where I heard it from.

Hey Bama... your wife and I have something in common. I'm from Mobile too. Great city! I lived along the MS gulf coast for a short time too. I love the whole area down there.
