Default Leader Length?

Wondering what length leader yall use with braid. I've never really experimented with leader length, but wonder if any of yall have and which length you like the best.

Thanks.

Couple feet is just about all I ever use. Cut it off and retie when it gets below a foot. I like to keep the knot out of the guides if possible.

When dropshotting, I'll make it 5-6' leaving me enough room to retie a couple times.

I've never used a leader. Maybe I should. But 30 pound Power Pro has a diameter of 8 pound mono, and I really don't think thats going to be an issue as far as a bass getting frightened off by the line.

Yeah, I've always been skeptical if bass are really very line shy. But it's always been better safe the sorry kinda thing, it can't hurt, that's for sure.

I say in Gin clear water, line can definitely spook a fish. My idea would be that the clearer the water, the longer the leader. I dont use braid and dont fish clear water so i may be the wrong guy to ask.

I don't tie a leader because I feel the fish can see it. I tie a leader because I want more abrasion resistance. There have been many times where I have snatched into a Pike that shredded my leader, but didn't break off. Now if I were to have been fishing straight braid that might have been a different story.

I usually tie a leader that is 5-6' long.

With a carolina rig, I prefer using a longer leader in clear water and a shorter leader in muddier water. In muddy water the fish will use the sound of the weights dragging on the bottom to locate the bait if your leader is shorter they will be able to locate the bait easier.

A rule of thumb for fly and popper fishing is "make the leader at least as long as the rod". As others have said, it could depend on water clarity and other factors also. Most braid isn't as large diameter as fly line, so a leader this long might be overkill for braid.
