Fishin At Nite
It gets pretty warm down here in Louisiana in the summer, so my partner
and I do some night fishing for Bass. I was wondering what ya'll do for lights. I've used laterns before. Put 1 on each end of the boat, put foil on one side to direct the light. I was thinking about trying out those lights you can wear on your head. Any suggestions? Thanks, Dannie |

Ok here is my suggestions.....
For a headlight I use Cats Eyes. they are small light weight lights that attach to the brim of a hat. They work really well...... If you are on a boat I would suggest a blacklight. Youd have to figure out mount and wire it. You get line the "lights" up with a blacklight. just my .02 |

If you have a couple of mini Maglites you can duct tape them to your hat, not vary attractive but functional.

I have one of those headlamps but I don't recall what brand. Definately, a good investment. It is nice to be "hands free" when night fishing. I usually only turn it on when I am re-tying.

OOOH man do I love the black lights, and flourescent line at night, it's just plain old cool to see it. Black lights have less tendancy to attract the skeeters, all of mine are a combo black/flourescent so I can flip the switch and immediatley go from one to the other. I showed Tom where I have holes drilled in my boat to mount two lights, and I have a another one I keep up front with me. I don't know if it really helps me catch fish, but I sure do enjoy it a lot. It will help you see your line a lot better, but I usually prefer topwater at night. Nothing better than to hear the plo-plop-plop-plop-plop of a jitterbug, and then here a SWOOSH-SPLASH, and have a Hawg on the end of the line.

I use the light I bought years ago from BPS and put it in the bottom of the boat just for retying, removing hook etc etc and the blacklight does give off just enough light to make the floro lines glow other than that use the natural light in the sky. You wont beleive how well you can see once your eyes become adjusted. A big plus in night fishing is that you have to rely more on feel which in turn will make you a better fisherman.
