colors

ive been sticking with more natural colors on my crankbaits, and plasticks, topwaters, etc. i think im selling myself short by not having any "loud" colored baits, but just been tryin to match the water and natural forage. if i was to add some color to my tackelbox, what should i start with, and use on overcast days or sunny skies? not much of the water i fish is murkey, save one lake, which has an alge bloom almost the whole summer, top waters seem to do the best there

the overcast days is a easy one, try firetiger in crankbaits, jerkbaits, and chartruse n white for spinnerbaits

funny you mention loud baits as i just discussed this very topic with deacon.. there is quite a few lakes across the country where off the wall colorations are the bait of choice. lake wyilie,lake murry,are just 2 that snap to mind.. now 75% of the lakes in the country will NOT be this way. your average main stay colors for plastics would be green pumkin,watermelon seed,and june bug. just about every thing else is a varyation to these 3 colors.

cranks i would stay with a shad color or a craw color i would add a fire tiger in a larger size-3/8,1/2 oz rattle bait for when the lake turns muddy. a red,homer,and/or purple bait. would be good addition to your normal collection of baits. in reallity i am more concerned with depth and structure i can contact with a giving crankbait colors are secondary..

top waters are hard to beat black,black/chrome,white/black,or a frog color... i am not saying that a hot pink/chartusese pop-r would not catch bass. stranger crap has happened..

When it is overcast and rainy, I often do well with a red or red/orange crankbait or ratl' trap.
