Which way to go?
Hey guys,
I have the following 3 poles and need some guidance as to which pole to use for the type of fishing I like to do and which kind line to put on them. I primarily fish small lakes with woody structures, lg/sm mouth bass only, and typically use frogs, crankbait, topwater, tubes and worms. So given these 3 poles and the type of fishing I primarily do...which pole would you use for what...and what lb test and what type (not brand) of line would you put on them? Rig 1: 6'6" Med-Heavy Baitcasting pole w/ baitcasting reel. Rig 2: 6'6" Med-Heavy pole w/ spinning reel. Rig 3: 7' Med-Heavy pole w/ spinning reel. |

Welcome to the forum!
For the spinning rods I would go with 8 lb mono-ten at the most. That will cover most of the situations you encounter. For the baitcast reel I'd go with 12 lb Flourocarbon or 50 lb braid-12 lb diameter. I'd go with braid if you are fishing real heavy cover and throwing a lot of Texas rig-trees, pads, etc. If you are not fishing real heavy cover the flouro is a good choice-less visible and not near the stretch of mono. I use PowerPro braid, Seguar Carbon Pro flourocarbon, and green Trilene Xl for all mono applications.

What Reb said. You could also use power pro on the 7ft. spinning setup for frogs and topwaters. I did that and had no problems in the pads and weeds. Go with the 50lb. Welcome to the site.
