St. Croix won't knowingly make a bad rod. If possible make a comparison between the Triumph and the Premier. If you feel good about the Triumph...buy it! I hear they are very much OK but you can't expect the lightness, sensitivity, quality of materials and workmanship of a 100-300 dollar stick from a 55 buck rod.

I've fondled the Triumph and I think it'll do a great job for you but, after all, it's your call (and your wallet!)

Good Luck,
F.Rod

MTL, The Triumph is the old SC II rod blank, which is what the original Avid series rods were.I don't own the Triumph yet, but for the money, it seems like a heck of a deal. Remember Saint Croix rating are different than most brands rate their rods at.A MH action feels like most brands Heavy. P N J

pig n jig, i might be wrong but arent St Croix blanks made in America? From my understanding the new Triumphs are from overseas. Unless they are just assembled where ever.

Don't know that yet Zooker. I am always interested in a good product and a fair price. If I do it would be with the entry level rods, the higher modulus /high price rods anit for me.They break easily, and they're not worth the extra money for them. P N J
