Default Help with Swimbait presentation.....

Been fishing Rancho Seco lately with a 9" quick snap Castaic swimbait (Rainbow Trout color). This is the one that has the treble hook and the big plastic diving lip.

Only had one fish follow it up to the boat. I have varied my retrieve and tried everything I can think of. I can't fish this bait like a worm since it doesn't sink.

Would I be better off using a sinking bait that I can deadstick or is the bait that I have a better choice? If you can reccomend a better bait than I have for Seco, please do.

Thanks.

From what I 've seen on tv the pro's make a wake with the swimbaits that size, just running it several inches below the water surface, with a constant retrieve, hope that helps ya!

Swimbaits catch big fish, there´s no doubt about it, but they are not "productive", I mean, you are not going to get many strikes on them, it may take hour after hour of casting and retrieving just to end up your day empty handed. I´ve fished with them for big mommas and I catch one or two fish ( great day ! ) after 8 or 10 trips of constantly casting those big baits, it can be frustrating for someone used to catch fish by the numbers.

What to do ?, exactly what you are doing, cast it, retrieve it slowly, twitch a little bit, shake it and keep on retrieving. Patience is the hardest thing to cultivate.
