spring fishing

I have the choice of going to a pond with a lot of woody cover or a lot of weedy cover this weekend. Which one should I choose and what should I fish it with?

Well..During the winter months bass tend to hang closer to the hard strycture like wood,rocks,etc. And since around here in Ohio that the water temps have not changed much I would go with Resthaven(AKA woody place). I would fish a weightless texas rigged Senko type bait or a spinnerbait. P.S. Which Resthaven you going to? <><

I like wood if it was me and I like jigs and texas rigs.

I would go to the one that i could get to the quickest, truly, that way i could get there real early.

Depends on what you mean by "Spring" What are the water temps like? If they're over 65*, I really like a rapala Original Floater fished like a jerk bait (cast it out, take a few cranks, and jerk a few time, let it float up untill almost the top of the water, and jerk it about down -- repeat! But experiment for what they want that day.. remember, they're very versatile lures.) Spinnerbaits, top water poppers or walking baits early in the morning right over tops of the grass. If the grass is low enough, a lipless crank ripped outa the grass. If it's under 60*, a jig around the wood, small worm with a 1/16oz bullet weight through, and over tops of the grass, and a shallow very slow floating, or shallow suspending jerk bait over the grass! And a shaky head, or wacky worm finesse worm around the whole thing.

Have a good time man, hope you catch some fish!

Since your in Ohio, I'm guessing the water is still pretty cold. I'd be pitchin a jig n pig around wood.

My choice would be to make a very slooow presentation around wood or rocks.

I would go to the smaller of the two because one will heat up faster I would go were the warmer water is and throw creature baits. or Red Eye Shads. Good luck on the water.

I would look for weeds in 6-10 ft of water maybe even a little deeper. Depends on water temp.

Wow lots of various input!

I am heading out on Friday and will be getting water temps for me here in Michigan... the good thing is we have three days of 70 plus degree weather coming and its a shallow lake, so hopefully it wakes them up a little.
