Default Is this normal????

I just got my 85 mercury 150 back after having the impellar/waterpump replaced and being serviced. This is a new boat for me so I took it out on the water for the first time today. I have a question for you boat motor guys, the motor started right up purred like a kitten but the pee stream was just barely spurting out water, not a good steady stream when in idle but when I give it gas it has a good stream of water coming out and seemed fine. Is this normal for the mercurys, I've only had a johnson 150 and it peed a good stream all the time. I called the mechanic who replaced the water pump and he said it be fine, that they do that, as long as the stream was good when you take off is the main thing. So is this normal or could it be something else? My boat dont have a water pressure gauge so I cant tell what the pressure was. It ran great what time I was out, I just worried, i dont want to blow the engine.

I owned an '89 150 'rude and it did the same exact thing..I wouldn't be worried if you're not getting a strong stream at idle..so long as you get a stronger stream as you move faster.

Smile Water PSI

Thats perfectly normal. Try kicking it in neutral and reving it up. Sometimes that will clear it right up. Alot of Merc/Mariners will do that. Most engine will have a low water psi (3-5) at idle anyhow. Plus if you didnt have water psi at speed you should have a solid continuous alarm.

as long as you dont have steam coming out of pee hole and moters not getting very hot i thank you should be ok with it.they should have check to see if it was clog or not when they was working on it.

Boater gets the cookie on this one. Mercs have little to no water exiciting the peehole till the Tstats open. Thats one of the good things as far as I am concerned. ( outta 10 times thats what I use for a sign that its time to start idilingoutta the no wake zone. This water exiciting from the pee hole lets me know that the engine has warmed sufficently enough to start putting the motor through its paces without or little fear of cold seizing.
