Default Question about yamaha motor

Hey guys...been away for awhile but back now. The new site looks awsome. But anyway. I changed water pump beginning of the year. Everything was ok, except there was a noticible "ticking" sound. I was unsure where it was coming from and would only do it while throttle was engaged. Could not hear it when idling. Last week took it out and while running, motor got really loud like the though prop exhaust stopped working. Then motor started running really rough like the prop was having trouble turning. I turned it off and used trolling motor to the boat ramp. Sounds like it is something in the foot, but unsure. Looking for any information anyone may have and if anyone had same problem. And the age old question????? How much am i looking at?? I may have a boat for sale.

2005 Yamaha VMAX 150
2 Stroke.

First off dump your lower unit oil and look and smell it. If its burnt smelling or milky you got problems. Thats the first thing I would do.
