Waxing a motor
I was thinking about waxing my new motor to keep it looking clean from the scum on the lower end from the water. Is there a wax I could use that is environmently friendly so its not harmful to the water???

we dont get any scum on our motor because the longest the boat is line the water all at once is 1 week so if you haul your boat out of the water every day you dont need it

i once waxed my lower unit. take it from me don't do it...
actually never wax the scarifical diode plates made into every moter normally they are the silver colored places on the lower unit. if you use the boat any amount of time the skeg will loose the paint along the edge. also aluminum props-which are painted- will loose paint on the facing edge of the blades.. there is nothing you can do to not loose the paint force of the water with any grit in the water is thrown against the afore mentioned surfaces with a massize amount of pressure... zooker

FISH'n
Carnuba wax is a derivitave of the Brazilian palm tree, and is used in cosmetics, food items and many other uses, Since it is a naturally occuring substance, it should cause no problems for the enviornment. I generally wax the lower part of my motor several times a year, but run a motor cover over the hood at all times to protect it from limbs, brush and trees while fishing ( I get into the trash where the big bass live) JackL
