WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama signed legislation Monday setting aside more than 2 million acres in nine states as protected wilderness....

Environmental groups and lawmakers in both parties said the law will strengthen the national park system, restore national forests, preserve wild and scenic rivers, protect battlefields and restore balance to the management of public lands....

The depth of support for this law by people from all walks of life, as well as the size, scope and diversity of the lands protected, are a clear indication Americans recognize that our wild lands must and do serve many purposes — not the least of which is as a place to hunt, fish, hike, camp, watch birds and just find solitude....

You can very easily show patriotism without supporting the president. They are not inclusive of one another.
Being patriotic is to be the country first, not an individual.

I am not supporting nor condemning the president, but just want to point out that this does not diminish the level of patriotism for WTL.

I'm in the bank buisness, and dont know how the investment bankers could/can sleep at night knowing what they have done to the state of the economy. I unlike the past and current administration do not believe in the bailouts at all, republicans and democratic officials do. Democrats now, republicans backed the bailouts when bush was in office.

If the goverment is going to give them bailout money, they should have some say in the company. Or else you end up with the bush bailout, where near a trillion dollars was spent with 0 accountability, then we find out about the million dollar bonuses.

I still dont understand how we can reward someone for a job unwell done.

Doc, I didn't argue when they pointed out that the lead ban was from a leftover bush official. I argued with stew about how much damage lead caused, and after I and others showed the lead worry to be foolish he disappeared then came back only to post this propaganda about Obama supposedly doing something everyone agreed on. Everyone does not.

Opponents, mostly Republicans, have called the legislation a "land grab" that would block energy development on vast swaths of federal land.

Not to say I have a problem with land being protected, but I do have a very big problem with officials in Washington telling people in the heartland what they can do on their land. I have a huge problem with the disintegration of federalism in this country. I feel as if Obama doesn't govern according to any standard of law (the environmental stuff we are arguing about are the smallest examples of this, I am more worked up about other things), but rather he rules according to his whims like a fascist thug. And it was the same for George W Bush. We have lost control of the country, so please forgive me if I don't salute our dear f&%*% leader.

He is a charlatan leading this county into an abyss. That isnt melodrama, we have finally gotten to the end of the road. You can only abuse a country, a system of government, an economy, a people so long until it implodes. We have been abusing for years, and now it is clear how bad things will get and obama instead of using it to enact reforms is using it to grab power for his own ego.

Bassboss, my patriotism only extends to a free system of government and not to lines on a map, descendants of a free people or an imperial power in washington. I do not have any undue feelings of warmth, kinship or common ground with puppets who subvert the very system I am loyal to.

I'm all for extending the National Parks but it's a double edged sword IMO.
It's another blindsided attempt to stop any exploration of viable resources this country needs. and............
Once the Stimulous takes effect- we will need all that extra land for all the Leaf Rakers on the Government Payroll.

I'm not sure it is in all cases, some probably, but not all.

I think the method of doing it is wrong, and that is my main deal. I like parks. I like protected land. Its a good thing but only when done the right way.

But why hadnt the states protected these lands?

I think this country would be so much better off if we had 50 states. And in each state, the powers not delagated the Federal govt are reserved to the states. And then, you have each state become a laboratory for policy.

California could then indulge themselves in anti-lead laws, govt healthcare, tax rates that they find proper and gun control. If you like those things, then you can move to cali.

And Alabama could have our guns, low taxes, football supremacy, fair labor laws that allow good jobs to actually exist. If you like all that, you can move to Alabama.

People in Bama wouldnt tell people in Cali how to live and vise versa.


Is that not better than 1 size fits all government from above? Serious question, what do you think?
