Stress Cracks 98 Ranger
I am looking into purchasing a used Ranger. The boat has some stress cracks on the port cap. The price is right but the cracks worry me. Are the cracks just cosmetic and common? Do they need to be repaired ? I can live with the eye sore just don't want to get more than I bargined for. Any insight would be appreciated. I have some pics.

i'd say you'll be ok, and from 25 years of fishing the river and its creeks, those look like scrapes from timbers to me

Looks like was T-Boned by a dock. If the cap is not seperated it may be fine BUT you need to look at the transom and inspect engine mount area for any oddness or cracks. Rangers will crack the transom in a heartbeat...Rouge wave or even an auto accident where the trailer takes the blunt of inpact. It will crack the transom and once that starts the motor will break the rest up.

No way of telling from pics my friend. Gotta take a good look fer yer self at the transom. Those spider cracks can be ok as long as they dont go into the transom area. Yes it looks like it was wacked at a dock or even another boat but there are thousands of boats out there with them. I been rebuilding boays since they started floating. LOL No pin intebded. Take a close look at the transom and it will tell the story.

That boat is near me.....Towne Marine in Bloomsburg. Never stopped to look at it though. I thought about it for the price but it has been there for some time.
