best bang for the buck

I am new to using a baitcaster and I recently bought a really cheap shakespier one. Could I spend about 60$ and get a new one thats worth it or should i save up and spend 100-150. If anyone has a opinon i appreciate it.

those bass pro extreme baitcasters are good for the 60 dollar price range

kelley you could spend 40.00 on a pinnacle lp100 and it's a great reel got a couple my self or you can get a abu garcia ambassueduer for around 50 bucks and again a good reel I also have one of those . the gear is all what you make of it but the pinnacles and abu's are great reels regardless of their prices .

heyy.. i love my shakespere.. yeah it was 50 bucks..but it works just as good as a revo to me.. it casts and it reels..

In the 50-80 dollar range there are several good options, nope they don´t have all the bangs and whistles but very good for the money. You got 3 Diawa reels in that price range: Daiwa Megaforce ( 70 dollars ), Daiwa Exceller ( 80 dollars ) and Daiwa StrikeForce ( on sale for 40 dollars ), a couple of Abus: Silver Max ( 60 dollars ) and Pro Max ( 80 dollars ).

Then screw the reel and the rod, get a coke can, 50 yards of line, some hooks, a few sinkers and dig out some nightcrawlers.

Can´t get lower budget than that.

I'd save my money and go with an Abu Garcia Revo S ($110 i think) or a Daiwa Advantage A ($160 i think). Although you could go with a cheaper Abu like the Silver or Pro Max reels. ($60-80)

If your just starting out I would buy a few inexpensive setups so you can fish different lures without having to retie all the time. You can also have the right line and rod action for several different lures this way. Then after a little time when money allows go out and buy a nice setup for whatever style fishing you are most confident in. Then slowly build your collection.

the bps extreme is a good reel (great reel if you consider the price) but if you decide to go with a more expensive one i would highly recommend a abu garcia revo, they are a great reel, i have several and haven't had any problems with them.

Welllll...lemme seeeeee....Oh yeah! I remember.
When I was a kid in Loozianner, grades 7-9, we could go the hardware store (pre-WallyMart Era), look at the tackle, then buy four Cherry Bombs or M-80s for a dollar. This was legal year-round!
Talk about "BANG" for the buck!

well thanks for the advice. I think Im going to get the daiwa megaforce I saw it for like 59$ when I bought my shakesphere I think I really bought a ugly stik rod that had a shakesphere on it. The Daiwa has a twitching bar??? What is that about? just to tighten the line once you throw it or to cause the bait to do any type of action.

Either way you go buying at $60 or buying at $110 you may end up with a bad reel. Pick a brand you trust. Pick a reel in the price range you are comfortable with. Have it spooled with good line. Bring the rod you want to match it too and a 1/2 jig or sinker and test it at the store. Then keep the box and receipt (together is the best bet) just in case you happen to get one of the bad ones. Go fish and enjoy!

In Mexico, the "reel" is referred to as "El Miguel 300"
But, lest folks poke fun at the concept, it was this very thing that inspired the design of the original Zebco spincast reels (though some say they were inspired by the true spinning reels from Mitchell, Alcedo, and so on.)

I bought the Quantum Escalade for $80 at Dick's sporting goods and besides my revo & viento it's my favorite reel...of course I've only used it about 10 full days of fishing.

Way off topic - I have seen some people use a fishing pole and line to fly their kites.

I kid you not guys, it´s a fun and challenging way to fish,

Back then when I was a youngster ( yup, when dinosaurs roamed the earth ) and only had one fishing rod I used to complement my lacking of carp fishing "gear" with something else, you know that when fishing for carp the more lines you´ve got in the water the better chances are you catch something. Coke cans, line, sinkers and hooks plus some doughbait or crawlers were my primary weapons of carp destruction.

Gear also included a folding chair, a cooler and a book ( fished a couple of times without chair and let me tell you, it´s quite uncomfortable to sit on the ground or on a rock for extended periods of time ), just fancast your lines, sit and wait till the fish bite.

There are times when you can wait for hours without a bite but when they bite the challenge is landing the fish, cuz ya know, carp can grow to gargantuan size ( pb 12 lbs with a can ) or when a school of carp passes where you have your rigs waiting several fish bite at the same time on different rigs, the challenge is to keep up with them.

In the States since carp are seen as trash fish very few people fish for them so catching them is easy, down here lots of people fish for carp and oh boy, they can be pretty smart and difficult to catch.
